Nacon Reclaims WRC Licence, Will Release Official Rally Games Starting in 2027

After a brief time away, the official WRC licence has landed back at publisher Nacon.

Starting from 2027, the company has secured an exclusive deal with the FIA World Rally Championship, allowing them to create and distribute officially endorsed rally racing video games until 2032.

For several years, Nacon has owned the license, during which Kylotonn Racing produced yearly official rally games from 2015 to 2022, culminating in WRC Generations.

Initially, the rights moved to Codemasters, later bought by EA. This studio launched EA Sports WRC in 2023 and maintained updates until 2024; however, it was recently disclosed that Codies’ development of rally games is being temporarily halted.

So, now the licence is once again swinging back over to Nacon and, presumably, Kylotonn.

The latest creation by the developer was Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, but unfortunately, it didn’t generate much excitement when it launched about a year ago.

By the conclusion of Kylotonn’s final stint in WRC, they had mastered rally racing remarkably well. The final installments were all solid and entertaining games, each one faithfully representing the thrill of the motor sport.

It’s hoped that the developer will resume work from where they previously stopped and further expand on their earlier achievements within this particular subgenre. The results of their efforts won’t be seen until 2027, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’ll prove a worthy wait for rally enthusiasts.
