It was reported by Telemundo that Liam Payne passed away at the age of 31 in Argentina on October 16, 2024. The Emergency Medical Care System (SAME) provided confirmation of this sad news.
The singer met his tragic end by falling fatally from a third-story balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires’ Palermo district, where he was temporarily residing, as stated in a press release on October 17th from Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 translated from Spanish to English.
The autopsy report indicated that Payne suffered 25 injuries consistent with falling from a great height. These injuries were severe enough to cause his death, with additional internal and external bleeding found in the skull, chest, abdomen, and limbs contributing to his demise. No signs of self-defense or third-party involvement were detected by forensic experts after examining the former One Direction member.
According to a statement released by prosecutors, it seems that Payne fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at CasaSur Palermo hotel at 5:07 p.m. local time. The statement also mentioned that just before this, the hotel had called emergency services for assistance regarding a guest who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and had damaged some items in the room.
The investigation not only seeks to recreate the circumstances surrounding the musician’s demise, but also to identify any potential roles that other individuals may have played in the series of events leading up to the victim’s passing.
Prior to his unfortunate demise, singer Payne was holidaying in Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. His Snapchat account featured images and videos of the duo enjoying their trip, discussing his equestrian plans, savoring breakfast moments, and expressing joy about their day in Argentina. The last snap posted on the day he passed away was a picture of him and Cassidy in swimwear.
Cassidy stated in a video posted on October 14th that she was eager to return to the U.S., having grown tired of her extended stay in South America. She confessed her dislike for prolonged stays in one place and explained how their initial five-day visit stretched into two weeks, prompting her longing to go home.
Following Liam Payne’s demise, his fellow One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan openly showed their sorrow. On October 17th, they posted a joint message on Instagram, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Liam’s passing. In due time, we will share more words when everyone is ready. Regarding when the complete toxicology findings will be disclosed, a specific date has not been announced yet. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 stated in a press release on October 22 that Andrés Esteban Madrea informed Payne’s father, Geoff, that the toxicological and histopathological studies related to the “Teardrops” artist’s demise are still underway.
