Naomi Osaka Reveals Excruciating Injury After French Open Exit

Naomi Osaka’s latest serve was a tough one.

On May 29, three days following her loss at the 2025 French Open, the tennis player disclosed that she had sustained a hand injury during her match.

On the memorable date of May 29th, I, a passionate admirer, couldn’t help but share a snapshot of my own battle wounds – three agonizing blisters adorning my knuckles – on my Instagram Stories. My idol, at just 27 years old, remains an unparalleled source of inspiration, even in the face of such minor setbacks.

Naomi expressed her struggle in a previous post as stated by the New York Post. She had mentioned that she couldn’t fully bend her fingers at the time, following her defeat to Paula Badosa, 27, in the first round of the tournament they were both participating in. In her own words, she shared her thoughts: “I’m fed up, I think I need a break for a while.

After briefly contemplating a break from my career, I didn’t let it linger for long. Instead, I posted a picture of myself training on a verdant court with the caption, “A day after my match because I can’t help but feel anxious if I don’t exercise.” In essence, I chose to prioritize my fitness routine as a way to combat my anxiety.

Despite being a four-time Grand Slam champion and a mother to 21-month-old Shai with ex-boyfriend Cordae, she has been coping with an injury that she sustained during her match at the Italian Open on May 12, which she has been battling through.

At the press conference following the French Open, Naomi, with evident feelings, stated that she’s had blisters on her hands since playing on clay courts. She mentioned that she doesn’t experience such issues on any other court surfaces.

Additionally, the athlete contemplated about not winning the competition, expressing her disappointment over her own play.

As time passes, I believe my performance should improve,” she went on to say, before mentioning her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who has worked with Serena Williams. “I don’t like letting people down. Even with Patrick, I found myself thinking just now, he goes from coaching the greatest player in history to… well, this is frustrating.

Nevertheless, Naomi managed to clinch a win in the L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo tournament on May 8. This triumph is significant for her because it marks her first WTA title since she won the Australian Open trophy last year, where she triumphed over Serena.

Reflecting on my victory at the French match on Instagram, I mused, “It’s quite a twist of fate to claim my first trophy on the surface I once considered my weakest.” What I love about life is its ability to offer opportunities for growth and transformation. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who’s been part of this journey with me, even during the rough patches. It may be tumultuous, but it’s also thrilling, and I feel truly blessed.

He expressed on his Trading Secrets podcast in March 2025 that his feet to knees are still numb, which he found peculiar. To give some context, let me clarify, I don’t want to sound boastful, but around two to three weeks ago, or perhaps a month ago, I was squatting approximately 295 pounds. Currently, I can’t perform even a single-leg squat without losing balance. It’s as if I’ve experienced a stroke or something similar.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

During the gathering, another person accidentally discharged a weapon inappropriately and struck me in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney took charge, evaluated my condition, and swiftly transported me to the hospital. I was injured in five spots, one of which was just shy of hitting my right eye directly.

The former star of “Kim Possible” went on to say, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck at the back of my eye, making it unsafe for surgery to extract it currently. However, doctors are keeping a close eye on me and I can see fine for now.

Despite the occasional harshness found on the internet, Amy Schumer is grateful for its role in helping her uncover the cause of a health concern. In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, she reminisced about the internet’s scrutiny following a series of interviews, expressing her relief with, “OK everybody, relax,” only to have medical professionals chiming in with comments suggesting she might be suffering from Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections.

As these doctors pointed out potential symptoms they believed were caused by the steroid injections she had been receiving for scar treatments following procedures like a breast reduction and C-section, Amy realized, “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections in my scars.”

After this realization, she shared, “I had a breast reduction, a C-section, whatever, and so I was getting these steroid injections. So it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

Now, Amy is simply relieved to learn that she’s healthy, as she expressed in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter: “Finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.

Hailey Bieber encountered a truly alarming incident in March 2022 during a breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber. She began experiencing symptoms similar to a stroke, causing her speech to become garbled and one side of her face to droop. Recounting the experience on YouTube a month later, she described not being able to respond initially due to uncertainty.

Justin asked again if she was alright, but when Hailey tried to respond, she found she couldn’t speak clearly. She was rushed to the hospital for checks, where doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA).

Further examination at the University of California, Los Angeles revealed that Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had traveled into her heart through this hole and then escaped to her brain, leading to the TIA. Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and reported feeling wonderful since then.

In the same year as Hailey’s health scare, Justin Bieber also encountered a similar issue. Specifically, in June 2022, he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition affecting his facial nerves and causing temporary paralysis in parts of his face. This diagnosis forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour. In an Instagram video, Justin described the condition as a virus that attacked the nerve in his ear and caused facial paralysis. At the time, he couldn’t blink one eye, smile on one side of his face, or move one nostril. As a result, his entire face was paralyzed on one side. The singer also mentioned it had become progressively difficult for him to eat, but eventually, the paralysis subsided. Hailey later shared on Good Morning America that Justin is doing well and has recovered significantly, expressing gratitude that he’s fine.

Initially keeping tight-lipped about his hospitalization in April 2023, Jamie Foxx eventually shared his experiences. In his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he recounted the incident saying, “One day in Atlanta, I complained of a severe headache to my friend and asked for an aspirin. Before I could get it, I fainted and lost consciousness for about 20 days.”

Upon visiting a doctor, he received a cortisone shot and was sent home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, sensing something was wrong, drove him to another hospital where they discovered the cause: a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

Twenty days later, following an operation on May 4, Foxx awoke in a wheelchair and was unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. “I want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I truly needed them all.

Emilia Clarke, who is famously known for her role in Game of Thrones, had a terrifying health ordeal off-screen. In 2019, she penned an emotional essay titled “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker.

Describing an incident at the gym, she recounted, “I ended up in the restroom, kneeling and retching violently. The pain, sharp and intense, was escalating.” At that moment, she realized her brain had been injured.

Rushed to the hospital for a scan, she was given a grim diagnosis: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a ruptured artery.

The actress endured immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and found herself speaking nonsensical words.

A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month’s stay. However, in 2013, another brain scan revealed that a growth had doubled in size, necessitating another operation.

“When I woke up, I was screaming in agony,” she wrote. “The procedure had failed, and the doctors informed me that my chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again. This time, they would need to access my brain through my skull.”

Fortunately, Emilia is now reportedly in perfect health.

Cori Broadus, the daughter of Snoop Dogg, expressed her gratitude towards her family after a serious stroke in January 2024. When she informed them about the incident and shared a photo, everyone quickly came to her aid. Due to additional health complications related to lupus, Cori had to remain in the hospital longer than anticipated. She explained, “I could have gone home after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t cooperating. My kidneys were failing, and there was a lot happening at once.” Currently, she is recovering well, with only minor issues regarding motor skills to overcome, as stated by the star of ‘Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story’.

In her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley‘s health took a turn for the worse. She started experiencing severe issues such as losing hearing, fatigue after short walks, and stomach problems with almost every meal. This was a complex set of health problems and various doctors offered different diagnoses.

Determined to find answers, Shailene, who has a background in holistic medicine and herbalism, sought help from both conventional medical professionals and independent healers. This quest for healing took over a decade.

During this long journey, she also grappled with the mental impact of her physical discomfort. Fearing food due to stomach problems, she developed an anxiety around eating. This led to body image issues, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty about her own body.

However, after focusing on both her physical and mental health, Shailene is now feeling much better. She shared that her health issues eventually resolved themselves and she is currently in good health.
