Naruto’s Anime Needs To Return

On March 26th, 2023, episode 293 of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” premiered. In this episode, the antagonist Code was plotting revenge against the Hidden Leaf Village following his master’s demise. Fortunately, Boruto and Kawaki were eager to confront the new leader of the Kara Organization. However, there has been a noticeable quietness regarding the ninja-themed shonen series on the anime scene. As we near the two-year mark since our last glimpse of Konoha’s heroes on television, it’s high time Studio Pierrot reintroduced our beloved ninjas.

First off, let’s take a look at Pierrot’s earlier plans regarding Naruto’s secret base, Hidden Leaf. After wrapping up “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”, the studio announced they were producing four more episodes of the original Naruto series, focusing once again on the youthful versions of Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. Originally slated for September 2023 release, these new installments have been delayed because the animation quality wasn’t satisfactory according to the studio. As of now, neither the release of these episodes nor a potential continuation of the Boruto series has been confirmed.

Pierrot’s About Face

It’s quite unexpected, but it appears that the holdup in releasing new Naruto episodes might be due to the immense popularity of Demon Slayer. Ufotable’s adaptation of Demon Slayer has gained global recognition, and this seasonal production method was noticed by Pierrot, the studio behind Naruto. With their hands full working on Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War’s highly-anticipated series, it seems like an ideal moment to at least hint at the return of the Seventh Hokage and the new generation of ninjas in Naruto.

Last April, Pierrot’s president, Michiyuki Honma, explained how Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba significantly influenced the anime industry. He stated that it was a top-notch production requiring significant time and resources to create, which became extremely popular upon release, captivating viewers of various ages. Prior to and following its announcement, he felt compelled to alter the way they produce content. Additionally, other studios were releasing similarly high-quality productions, and in Japan, there was a setting where such shows could be viewed on commercial television.

Boruto Stories To Cover

In terms of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”, there’s a good deal more narrative left to be adapted for an upcoming anime season. For those who follow the manga, you understand that Boruto, the son of the Seventh Hokage, carries on his story in this sequel series, titled “Boruto: Two Blue Vortex”. It’s within this present series where the new generation truly comes into their own and could provide plenty of episodes for shonen enthusiasts to catch up on the action.

A common issue expressed by many Naruto anime enthusiasts revolves around what’s known as “filler.” When Pierrot aimed for a weekly release, they often invented unique storylines not found in the original manga. If the studio maintains its seasonal approach, it allows creators Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto to keep expanding the narrative over extended periods.

We Really Miss Naruto

Truthfully, Naruto’s anime maintained a consistent weekly release for quite some time, and although the filler episodes weren’t everyone’s favorite, there’s been a void without regularly seeing these characters on screen. Even though Boruto may not be as well-liked as his father, the Two Blue Vortex storyline has significantly improved Konoha’s new team of ninjas, and animating these stories would provide a much-needed boost for the shonen franchise.

Naruto solidified its status as part of Shonen Jump’s esteemed “Big Three” through multiple means, and we eagerly anticipate the moment when another Shadow Clone Technique will explode onto our screens, whether they be diminutive, silvery, or any other variation.
