Naruto's Creator Really Wanted to Kill More Characters in Boruto

As a seasoned gamer and die-hard Naruto fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless anime characters, I must admit that Masashi Kishimoto’s desire to off more characters in Boruto than we could have imagined came as a pleasant surprise. It’s refreshing to see the creator behind such an iconic series still willing to take risks and push the boundaries of storytelling.

Masashi Kishimoto, the brain behind Naruto, has introduced a multitude of heroes that fans are struggling to keep count of. From Team 7’s stars to the Kages and the Akatsuki, the Naruto Universe is teeming with characters. Upon the arrival of its sequel, Boruto, more fighters were swiftly added to the franchise by co-creator Mikio Ikemoto. However, as revealed in a recent interview, Kishimoto initially planned to eliminate far more characters in Boruto than one might anticipate.

During their joint trip to France for fan meetings, Kishimoto and Ikemoto revealed insights about the creation of “Boruto”. In an interview, Kishimoto explained his role in shaping the overall storyline and character arcs, while Ikemoto focuses on refining the narrative and providing the artwork. However, when it came to deciding which characters to eliminate in the sequel, Ikemoto had to intervene and prevent Kishimoto from making drastic decisions.

As stated by Kishimoto, Ikemoto played a significant role in altering aspects of the Naruto series. Interestingly, Ikemoto is responsible for creating characters like Eida and Daemon, as Kishimoto initially did not conceive the Kara members. Furthermore, Ikemoto himself admitted to proposing adjustments that ultimately preserved certain characters’ lives.

During our ongoing conversation, Kishimoto and Ikemoto discussed their previous debates about the character Code. They both felt that the character should meet his end, but as the storyline advanced, they struggled to find an early opportunity for his demise. Consequently, Code evolved into a more significant adversary. Interestingly, such disagreements over character deaths between Kishimoto and Ikemoto are not uncommon. However, they manage to come to terms with these differences eventually.

Naruto Is Many Things But Not Scared of Death

Throughout its course, Naruto didn’t shy away from eliminating several beloved characters, such as Jiraiya, Itachi, and Neji. The shonen series was not hesitant to bid farewell to favorites. Similarly, Boruto has experienced some character losses of its own. However, compared to its predecessor, the sequel has been more restrained in terms of character deaths. Therefore, as Naruto progresses, be prepared for potential funerals of additional heroes.
