Natalie Portman Filmed Padme Cameo for Obi-Wan Kenobi, But It Was Cut—Find Out Why!

If you’re a fan of Star Wars, it’s possible you’ve learned that Natalie Portman could be returning to the space saga. There’s buzz that she might take on her beloved character Padme Amidala again for the first time since 2005. This role was Padme, who was Anakin Skywalker’s wife and the mother of Luke and Leia.

Indeed, it’s quite logical for her character to be part of the second season of Ahsoka, as there are rumors that Lucasfilm is planning to do so. And I believe I echo the sentiments of many when I express my eagerness to unravel the intricacies of their previously undisclosed yet pivotal relationship with Ahsoka Tano.

It seems that, despite appearances, Natalie Portman might have returned to the Star Wars universe earlier than expected. However, her significant return was mysteriously edited out during post-production.

Per scooper Jeff Sneider during his interview on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic about Natalie Portman:

Previously, she filmed some scenes for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series during her work on Thor: Love and Thunder. However, these scenes were not included in the final version of the show, so it’s premature to determine…

Regrettably, we don’t have specifics about what or how much Portman filmed for Kenobi. If this rumor is correct, it suggests a nearly unfathomable level of mismanagement on the part of Lucasfilm and the production team behind Kenobi.

One advantage emerging from the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy by Disney is that it has sparked a newfound admiration for the Prequel Trilogy. In an ironic twist, Disney’s work has led people to understand that, despite the Prequels’ flaws, they could have been significantly worse.

Speaking about the “Kenobi” TV series, it’s understood that fans were thrilled by the announcement that Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen would reprise their roles as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker respectively. However, if Padme had made an appearance, it could have taken fan excitement to unprecedented heights.

If Kenobi had been superbly crafted into a concise, thrilling mini-series instead of its current state, Lucasfilm might have justified reducing Monica’s scenes. However, we’re all aware of how the series unfolded, and I, personally, would have welcomed a brief appearance by Padme over some minutes dedicated to Reva or even the entire Leia chase sequence.

But alas…

I sincerely hope and express my optimism that those at Lucasfilm have taken the necessary lessons, ensuring they won’t repeat the mistake of delaying Portman’s involvement in Ahsoka again. Perhaps they may even find a clever way to repurpose the footage left unused from Kenobi. Only time will reveal their decisions.
