Natasha Lyonne To Star in Horror Movie Based on DC Comic (and It’s Ridiculous)

Natasha Lyonne is preparing to take on a unique role in what could be one of the most unusual comic book adaptations yet. As reported by Deadline, Lyonne has been chosen for the main part in an adaptation of DC’s Basketful of Heads series, a horror comic from DC’s Hill House. This series was created by author Joe Hill and illustrated by Leomacs and Reiko Murakami. The story revolves around a heroine armed with a machete who chops off villains’ heads, only to find that these severed heads won’t stop talking. Yes, this isn’t a hallucination or a rejected Monty Python idea. This unconventional project is indeed being developed, thanks to Bluestone Entertainment.

Independent movie creator Ana Lily Amirpour, best known for her work on “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night“, has been assigned to pen and helm a new project that she characterizes as “unusually humorous, dreamlike, and incredibly bloody”.

Amirpour is thrilled about partnering with the hilariously talented Natasha Lyonne to convert this comic book into a movie. “Together,” he said, “we’re going to create an entirely fresh kind of anti-hero who embarks on a bizarre journey that awakens something deep within her and flips her world upside down. It’s going to be a dark comedy with a surreal twist, full of suspense and gore.

Initially published in 2019, the graphic novel titled “Basketful of Heads” revolves around June Branch who encounters a unique predicament: her slain enemies’ heads keep talking! Each slain adversary contributes to a macabre Greek chorus and adds an eight-pound burden in the form of their heads, literally speaking.

Actress Natasha Lyonne, known for her role in the series “Poker Face” (set to return for its second season), and set to appear in “Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps” this summer, will star and produce a forthcoming horror-comedy through her production company Animal Pictures.

Jodie expressed her excitement about collaborating with the creative director Ana Lily Amirpour on this well-known intellectual property. She predicts it will be a real winner!

Alongside Lyonne, Dannah Shinder of Animal Pictures will serve as an executive producer, with Max Ferguson taking on the role of overseer. Richard Saperstein, Brook Saperstein, and Annie Saperstein will be producers for Bluestone Entertainment, while Beau Turpin will act as executive producer. Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans are set to assume production roles for Weed Road.

Previously, Joe Hill’s dark stories have been brought to life on screen, and this trend continues with the adaptation of “Basketful of Heads”. The author, set to release his fifth novel, “King Sorrow”, in October, has had numerous works adapted into films like “The Black Phone” and series such as “Locke & Key” and “NOS4A2”. However, “Basketful of Heads” appears to offer a distinctive, thrilling experience. The question remains whether mainstream audiences will accept a movie about a woman armed with a machete who communicates through a chorus of disembodied heads. Time will tell. Yet, one fact is undeniable – in the era of increasingly unconventional comic adaptations, “Basketful of Heads” may have found its ideal actress to breathe life into this chilling tale.
