Naughty Dog Turns Off Intergalactic PS5 Trailer's Comments As Discourse Turns Nasty

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of immersion in the vibrant world of video games, I must admit that I find myself both perplexed and disheartened by the current discourse surrounding Naughty Dog’s latest offering, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s debut trailer.

Due to a negative turn in discussions following the reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s debut trailer, Naughty Dog chose to disable comments on their original upload. However, PlayStation decided to keep the comment section active on their mirror version, which has left some fans taken aback.

Some gamers are expressing dissatisfaction about the appearance of the new game protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, who is portrayed by actress Tati Gabrielle, known for her role as a villain in the Uncharted film.

On Instagram, Gabrielle posted: “I’m overjoyed and thrilled to be part of this game project, particularly alongside video game legend [Neil] Druckmann and the entire Naughty Dog crew. A big thank you, Neil, for recognizing me and entrusting me with your latest creation. I promise to make you proud!

Despite widespread acclaim for The Last of Us 2 as one of the best exclusive titles on PlayStation, the conversation surrounding its plot, which leaked prematurely before release, remains bittersweet and contentious for nearly five years. Naughty Dog, particularly series creator Neil Druckmann, continue to face criticism from some quarters for this game’s narrative.

Although we find it unnecessary to comment on the negativity seen on social media platforms, we believe that Jordan’s appearance fits quite well within the context of a sci-fi narrative. For instance, Sigourney Weaver famously went bald for Alien 3, and last year’s praised film Furiosa, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, also featured a similar style.

To be honest, what’s being discussed doesn’t seem to carry much weight when we’re admittedly not well-versed about the personalities involved or the topic at hand.

It’s perfectly fine to be cautious about an upcoming game, even if it comes from a studio as accomplished as Naughty Dog. However, the negativity surrounding a game that appears to be incredibly promising feels exhausting and unjustified at best.
