NBA 2K25 Developer Reveals Why 3PT Shooting Is Harder Than Before

As a seasoned NBA 2K gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the new shooting mechanics in NBA 2K25 have taken me by surprise, and not always in a good way. The increased difficulty in 3-point shooting has certainly shaken up the gameplay dynamics, but it’s left many players, including myself, scrambling to adapt. I remember the days of NBA 2K24 when scoring from range was as easy as pressing a button – those days seem like a distant memory now.

Playing three-point shots in NBA 2K25 has been found to be more challenging than its predecessor, NBA 2K24. Gamers have noticed this since its launch on September 6, and discussions about this change can be seen on the game’s Reddit page and other platforms. In an attempt to improve the shooting experience, some players have suggested disabling the shot meter within the game. However, regardless of personal preferences, it appears that the increased difficulty in shooting is intentional and likely here to stay.

In a discussion about shooting mechanics, Mike Wang, the gameplay director for the series, mentioned that shooting has become more challenging due to Visual Concepts’ aim to create a more authentic gaming experience. Previously, the success rate of 3-point shots was excessively high, making the game less realistic and favoring a meta focused solely on 3-point shots. By making 3-pointers more difficult to make, Visual Concepts hopes players will adopt varied playstyles, leading to a richer gaming experience overall.

In the upcoming NBA 2K game, players may find it challenging to achieve the same level of success in shooting as they did in the previous edition (2K24). One major change implemented for NBA 2K25 was the adjustment of three-point percentages (3PT%) to more closely resemble NBA averages. This alteration was made with the intention of enhancing overall basketball gameplay.

In the initial phase of NBA 2K24, it was more challenging to make long-range shots, but later on, this difficulty was reduced through updates that made scoring easier. Essentially, there’s a pattern indicating things might become less demanding over time. However, for now, players of NBA 2K need to adapt their playstyle to effectively score the ball.
