NBA 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

NBA 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

As a hardcore basketball enthusiast and long-time follower of the WNBA, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of NBA 2K25. The inclusion of The W, focusing on women’s basketball, is a significant step forward for gender equality in video games, and I can’t wait to create my own player and join the pantheon of legends.

The acclaimed NBA series by 2K returns on September 6th with NBA 2K25. Each year, sports titles like this one typically see minor updates, and NBA 2K25 is no exception. While significant overhauls might not be on the horizon, enhancements to The City suggest that 2K is paying attention to player feedback.

Returning game modes

In 2024, 2K NBA is bringing back its most beloved game modes including MyCAREER, the card collection phenomenon MyTEAM (which includes King of the Court), the sim mode MyNBA, and women’s league basketball known as The W. However, please note that MyNBA and The W will only be playable on newer versions of the game, along with The City featured in MyCAREER. Additionally, SEASONS will return, merging progression from both MyCAREER and MyTEAM to earn up to 40 levels of in-game rewards.

MyCAREER

In this new version, MyCAREER offers players another chance to pay tribute to sports legends, serving as 2K NBA’s single-player game experience. This year brings The City, a place to explore, exclusively on current-generation hardware. Due to its size and complexity, loading the game may take more than just a moment. For those using older consoles, a scaled-down version of The Neighbourhood is available, along with a chance to showcase your skills through competitive streetball across numerous new courts. This provides an arena for you to prove your worth.

All new The City

In the previous discussion, we talked about NBA 2K25 introducing a new version of “The City.” Although we noted that this mode has been divisive, it appears that more players find this edition unappealing rather than enjoyable. Despite this, it’s now 2024 and 2K is gearing up for another journey through city streets and basketball courts. Last year’s version was reminiscent of Venice Beach, and while the design for this year isn’t known yet, there are whispers that it might resemble the suburbs of New York. Regardless, it’s expected to be a more polished and condensed environment. Additionally, for those using last-generation consoles, “The Neighbourhood” will make a return as well.

MyTEAM

In the upcoming NBA 2K25, you’ll once again get the opportunity to build your dream team with both current and past sport legends in MyTEAM. It’s anticipated that 2K will bring some updates to this mode for the new game. You can gather cards, assign roles, adjust line-ups based on match type, compete against rivals, put your ideal squad up against others, strive for the top spot in King of the Court weekly competitions, and more. The core elements of MyTEAM are engaging and rewarding. Here’s to hoping that the pay-to-win aspect won’t be as intense this year.

MyNBA

NBA 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

Once more, we’ll have the chance to delve into NBA 2K’s signature dynasty mode. Although MyNBA might not be as popular as MyCAREER or MyTEAM, it tends to garner fewer complaints from fans. Managing an NBA team, climbing the ranks, and amassing multiple championships to become the most legendary team in sports history – that’s the essence of the experience. This time around, you can pick from six different Eras, including a brand-new one.

The W

Experience the ranks of WNBA icons within NBA 2K25’s dedicated women’s division, The W. Craft your unique WNBA athlete, command a full team, or engage in a swift matchup – The W offers various gameplay modes that are set to recur. According to 2K, the 2024 edition promises opportunities to forge legendary memories and pay tribute to the sport’s all-time greats. Competing your female superstars against others worldwide is achievable through The W Online.

ProPLAY overview

In the gameplay enhancements of NBA 2K25, there are significant updates to the ProPLAY system, which is a collection of animation and game mechanics designed to bring a higher level of realism to the action in the game. This update includes over 9,000 new animations based on actual player actions, such as 1,500 dribble animations, 1,100 signature shots, and 1,300 off-the-ball actions that will make the experience feel more authentic than ever. Additionally, the dribbling has been improved with a new Dribble Engine, offering dynamic motion and a lifelike feel. ProPLAY also brings innovation to both offense and defense through signature move sets modeled after real-world athletes.

Seasons

In NBA 2K25’s Seasons, new rewards, items, and content get updated every six weeks. The points you earn in MyTEAM and MyCAREER can be pooled together to climb up the Season’s reward ladder. The rewards are thematically related to specific game modes like skill boost cards for MyTEAM. Each season offers up to 40 levels of rewards, with an additional 40 levels achievable through the Pro Pass and the Hall of Fame Pass.

MyPLAYER Builder

NBA 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

Every year, I’m excited about the incremental updates in NBA 2K’s Builder. This year, perhaps they could refine the way attribute points are distributed based on player heights, as it’s become apparent that certain heights have become the ‘meta’ for builds within the community. Last year, there were noticeable differences in the MyPLAYER Builder, but I believe 2K has the potential to take it a step further and introduce more diversity. Building my dream player is a crucial aspect of the game, whether I choose to finesse or start from scratch, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they’ll innovate this feature.

Mamba Moments not returning

As a dedicated gamer, reliving iconic moments from Kobe Bryant’s illustrious career in NBA 2K24 was an unforgettable experience. However, it seems Mamba Moments won’t be making a comeback next time around. Here’s hoping they introduce a new mode that honors other basketball greats, maybe LeBron James, Stephen Curry, or Jayson Tatum of the Celtics. Fingers crossed for some fresh ways to celebrate legendary plays!

Team 2K

The NBA 2K series has a tradition of collaborating with some of the top athletes in basketball to create Team 2K. Out of the 17 athletes showcased this year, three are highlighted as cover stars for the latest release. Jayson Tatum from the Boston Celtics is featured on both the Standard and All-Star editions of 2K25, while two-time WNBA champion A’ja Wilson graces the covers for the WNBA and All-Star versions. NBA Hall of Famer Vince Carter will be on the cover for the Hall of Fame Edition.

Crossplay overview

Crossplay functionality will be offered in NBA 2K25, much like previous versions, but exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users. Unfortunately, this feature won’t be accessible on the PC version of the game this year. This is likely due to challenges in preventing hackers from manipulating the game on the PC platform.

Cross-gen progression capabilities

NBA 2K25 – Everything You Need to Know

2K Sports’ NBA 2K25 will offer cross-progression for MyTEAM mode, allowing progress, points, cards, and achievements to carry over between PS4 and PS5, or Xbox Series One and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. However, this feature does not extend across different console families such as PlayStation to Xbox, or vice versa. Additionally, any Virtual Currency (VC) earned or purchased in one version of the game can be shared within the same console family.

Current-gen version includes PC for first time

Indeed, it’s great news that for the first time since 2020, when the series transitioned to next-gen, NBA 2K is coming to current-generation PC. The complete suite of game modes, such as MyNBA, The W, and The City within MyCareer, will be accessible to PC players in NBA 2K25. Additionally, all the features of ProPLAY will also be included.

PC requirements

To enjoy NBA 2K25 on your computer, you’ll need at least 8GB RAM, an Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor, and either a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX570 graphics card. For a smoother gaming experience as recommended by 2K, upgrade to 16GB RAM, an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X processor, and opt for either an RTX 2070 8GB or Radeon RX 5700 8GB graphics card. You’ll also need around 150GB of storage space, a dual-analog SSD, and 64-bit processing capabilities. Although you can use a keyboard and mouse, a gamepad is highly recommended for an optimal gaming experience.
