Need for Speed Will Return, but Criterion is Currently Focused on Battlefield – EA

Approximately three years after the launch of “Need for Speed Unbound”, fans of the racing series are still inquiring about its future. However, Electronic Arts (EA) has indicated that it does have a future, though not immediately.

In 2023, it seemed as though Criterion was gearing up for the development of the next “Need for Speed” game. However, by the end of the same year, it was revealed that the studio had been tasked to work on “Battlefield” once more.

In a conversation with Eurogamer, EA executive Vince Zampella (who’s currently managing the entire Battlefield series) mentioned that Criterion is now focusing on Battlefield. However, he added that Criterion will eventually revisit Need for Speed, promising to bring it back in fresh and engaging ways.

According to him, the team responsible for “Need for Speed” at Criterion is now collaborating with those working on “Battlefield”. He explained that as a company, they felt it necessary to spend last year listening to the community of “Need for Speed” fans and using their feedback to develop content for “Unbound”.

To better meet the expectations of our gamers when it comes to the ‘Need for Speed’ series, we are eagerly working on innovative methods to reintroduce the franchise with fresh and intriguing concepts.

According to Zampella’s statement, by the year 2024, the game Need for Speed Unbound was furnished with an extra year’s worth of content after its launch, which included new automobiles, activities, game modes, personalization choices, and much more.

In terms of Battlefield, Electronic Arts (EA) has unveiled Battlefield Labs – an innovative testing program aimed at encouraging the community to offer crucial feedback during the development process. You can learn more about this initiative by following this link.
