Netflix Hikes Prices After Squid Game’s Massive Success – Are You Ready to Pay More?

In various regions, it’s been made known that Netflix plans to raise its subscription fees, attributable to the triumph of series like Squid Game and the appeal of sports broadcasting.

The increase in prices is set to impact viewers from the U.S., Canada, Argentina, and Portugal. This adjustment follows the streaming platform gaining approximately 19 million new subscribers during the last quarter of 2024.

According to reports from the BBC, a representative for Netflix stated that they currently have no information to share regarding potential price increases in the UK.

It’s been revealed that Netflix attributed its increase in subscribers around Boxing Day 2024 to the debut of Squid Game season 2, along with sports programming such as the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing event and live NFL games broadcast on Christmas Day.

In the United States, prices are scheduled to go up nearly everywhere, with the plan that includes ads jumping from $6.99 to $7.99, while the ad-free plan will cost $17.99, an increase from its current price of $15.49.

In October 2023, Netflix raised its subscription rates in the UK, along with announcing stricter measures against password sharing.

During that time, neither the ad-supported nor the standard subscriptions underwent any price increase. However, the basic subscription rose from £6.99 to £7.99 per month, and the premium subscription saw an increase from £15.99 to £17.99 each month.

2024 saw Netflix debut several notable series such as “3 Body Problem,” “Fool Me Once,” “The Gentlemen,” “One Day,” “Baby Reindeer,” and “Black Doves.” For the following year, 2025, they’ve planned the fifth and concluding season of “Stranger Things,” in addition to new seasons of “Squid Game” and “The Night Agent.
