Netflix Nabs 2024's Most Anticipated Anime

As a lifelong Dragon Ball fan who grew up watching Goku’s adventures unfold one Saturday morning cartoon at a time, I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store with Netflix‘s latest acquisition: Dragon Ball Daima! The anticipation is palpable as we eagerly await the return of our favorite Z-Fighters on October 18th.

It’s well-known that streaming services are fiercely competing in the anime streaming market, with contenders like Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, MAX, and others grabbing popular series and producing original anime content. It appears that one of these platforms has secured the most eagerly awaited anime of the autumn season, possibly even of 2024. Netflix has a history of creating original anime series such as Castlevania, Baki Hanma, Beastars, Arcane, and others; however, their latest announcement is set to make headlines. Prepare for an exciting adventure this month as Netflix introduces Dragon Ball Daima to its platform!

If you’re new to the storyline of Dragon Ball Daima or just need a reminder, here are some key points: The upcoming anime is produced by Toei Animation under the guidance of series creator Akira Toriyama, who sadly passed away, making Daima one of his final creations. In this new series launching on October 11th, Goku and his team have shrunken into miniature forms. The storyline follows Son as he journeys through the galaxy with the Supreme Kai to restore their normal size. As they travel, a sinister plot starts to unfold around them.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Netflix Debut

Netflix has revealed that they will start broadcasting the episodes of “Dragon Ball Daima’s” starting from October 18th worldwide, while viewers in Asia will be able to stream it a few days earlier on October 14th. Interestingly, Netflix previously showed “Dandadan” simultaneously with Crunchyroll and Hulu, indicating that the platform is increasingly making its mark in the world of anime.

Dragon Ball Daima Details

Currently, it’s said that “Dragon Ball Daima” will comprise approximately twenty episodes, as a fresh installment of the Z-Fighters’ story unfolds. Despite being part of the shonen series, viewers should not anticipate any elements from “Dragon Ball Super” in this new chapter. The events of “Daima” transpire after the demise of Kid Buu in “Dragon Ball Z,” but before the arrival of Whis and Beerus in “Dragon Ball Super.” Consequently, transformations like Ultra Instinct, Super Saiyan Blue, and others may not be present in this mini-Goku’s adventures across the universe.

Although “Super Dragon Ball Heroes” provided some Z-Fighter action, the “Dragon Ball Super” anime came to an end in 2018 with the conclusion of the Tournament of Power. Since then, Goku and his team have made appearances on the big screen through movies like “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” and “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of this shonen series to television.

Super’s Future

As a devoted Dragon Ball fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about the upcoming “Dragon Ball Daima” series. However, with Toei Animation keeping quiet on any potential anime adaptations for both the Moro and Granolah Arcs of “Dragon Ball Super,” many of us are left in suspense. Maybe once “Daima” concludes, we’ll find out that “Dragon Ball Super” is set to make a triumphant return.

After the sad demise of manga artist Akira Toriyama, who is known for creating Super, it was announced by Toyotaro, his successor, that the series would resume at some point in the future. Although several storylines have been wrapped up, there’s still a significant plot twist as Frieza underwent a new transformation, becoming Black Frieza, which makes him the most powerful character in the universe. In their previous encounter, he effortlessly defeated Goku and Vegeta, posing a formidable challenge for the Z-Fighters if they aim to vanquish their classic enemy in the future.
