As a seasoned movie buff who has witnessed the rise and fall of many characters, I am intrigued by the upcoming Netflix series, Apple Cider Vinegar. The trailer alone piqued my interest, with its enigmatic protagonist Belle Gibson, played by Kaitlyn Dever, who seems to embody the allure and peril of social media stardom.
Netflix unveiled a trailer along with some initial snapshots featuring Kaitlyn Dever, who stars in Apple Cider Vinegar, an upcoming dramatic production.
Stepping into the shoes of a movie critic, I’d rephrase it like this: “Advertised as a ‘sort-of true tale spun from a fib,’ this captivating series takes us back to the dawn of Instagram, delving deep into the story of an empire built on wellness that soared and crashed. It offers a compelling look at the culture that fueled its rise and the individuals who ultimately brought it crumbling down.
In particular, this story bears resemblance to that of Belle Gibson, portrayed by Dever, a popular wellness figure from Australia who asserted she had healed her supposed terminal brain cancer using holistic methods.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’d rephrase that as: “In Apple Cider Vinegar, I find myself journeying alongside two vibrant young women who are determined to conquer their life-endangering afflictions using health and wellness practices. Along the way, they inspire their worldwide online followers.
“All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.”
The movie opens as Belle (Dever) is questioned about the origins of everything, to which she responds by recounting that four years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In an effort to recover holistically, she embarked on a journey and eventually created a stunning community.
As she ascends to prominence, accumulating countless supporters and admirers, it’s later discovered that her entire narrative, even her claimed condition, was falsified.

Alongside Dever, the ensemble for this Limited Series also features Alycia Debnam-Carey from Fear the Walking Dead, Aisha Dee known for Safe Home, Tilda Cobham-Hervey starring in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Ashley Zukerman recognized for Succession, and Mark Coles Smith, prominent in Mystery Road: Origin.

Now, the following individuals have also joined them: Susie Porter (from Irreverent), Matt Nable (Transfusion), Phoenix Raei (The Night Agent), Chai Hansen (Night Sky), Rick Davies (Offspring), Kieran Darcy-Smith (Mr Inbetween), Catherine McClements (Total Control) and Essie Davis (One Day).
