Presently, it’s an exciting period for death-themed series on Netflix, with “Squid Game” still leading the pack among their live-action series. As Netflix readies for potential future hits in this genre, they have lined up “Last Samurai Standing” set to debut this fall, alongside other life-or-death games like “Alice in Borderland,” which is coming back after a long wait. A sneak peek at the new season might offer fans some insight into what’s next for Arisu and her adventures.
Although Alice in Borderland differs significantly from Squid Game, it stands out particularly with its supernatural aspects. Unlike a survival game controlled by the upper echelons of society, this live-action adaptation derived from an anime follows an enigmatic entity transporting competitors to a deserted Japan, where it seems there are no longer any residents. The original manga concluded in 2021 with the sequel series Alice in Borderland: Retry, which is expected to unfold as the storyline for the third and presumably final season of the show.
The Joker is Coming
Besides the fresh image Netflix shared earlier, they also revealed a new poster centering on the mysterious character who appears to be causing trouble for Arisu and their group. This intriguing figure resembles the Joker, a character who was notably absent during the first two seasons despite his significant influence. Accompanying this new poster is a fresh description of what we can expect when season three premieres this fall.
In the latest development, the Joker card signals the comeback of Alice in ‘Borderland’. Prepare for a thrilling journey filled with suspense, as the show delves deeper into thought-provoking topics like human nature, self-sacrifice, and the search for purpose in life.
You’re not ready for the final game.

Alice in Borderland’s Anime
Initially conceived as a manga by Haro Aso, the franchise eventually got its own limited series in 2014 through studios Silver Link and Connect. Given the success of the live-action adaptation of “Alice in Borderland”, it remains to be seen if the anime will carry on or if a fresh reboot might emerge in the future. For the time being, enthusiasts of death game stories can only satisfy their cravings with the Netflix series that effectively caters to viewers’ fascination with this genre.
