The Summer Hikaru Died Unveils New Poster & AnimeJapan 2025 Announcement

Before the grand premiere, I can’t contain my excitement as I share the latest poster unveiled for our upcoming show! It features the two captivating leads, Yoshiki and “Hikaru,” in a whimsical carnival setting. They are both donning striking black and white harlequin attire, with kitsune masks in hand. Fans of the manga will undoubtedly spot the radiant delight on “Hikaru’s” face, while Yoshiki maintains his signature mix of fear and unease. The anticipation is palpable!

The poster announces that “The Summer Hikaru Died” will have a unique setup at AnimeJapan 2025, which is part of KADOKAWA ANIME CARNIVAL’s larger booth. Furthermore, “The Summer Hikaru Died” will participate in a Green Stage discussion with voice actors Ciaki Kobayashi (playing Yoshiki) and Shuichiro Umeda (portraying Hikaru). A fresh trailer is anticipated to be unveiled during this panel.

In Tokyo during March 22nd and 23rd, AnimeJapan 2025 is scheduled. At this event, you’ll find a panel discussion and special merchandise for sale at designated booths. As of now, the specific designs for these items have not been disclosed.

What is The Summer Hikaru Died About?

The Summer Hikaru Disappeared” masterfully combines horror elements with everyday scenes, crafting an unnervingly distinctive narrative. The manga revolves around Yorichi, who suspects that his close friend, Hikaru, has been replaced by a malevolent being upon their return from summer break. However, rather than building suspense around the mystery, “Hikaru” openly informs Yorichi of Hikaru’s demise. As Yorichi grapples with his complex feelings for “Hikaru,” who may pose a threat to him, his family, and friends, the story unfolds.

According to Yen Press, the English translators of the manga, their official description goes like this: “It bears Hikaru’s likeness, speaks in Hikaru’s voice, and holds Hikaru’s memories. Yet, what emerged from the mountains six months ago is not Yoshiki’s friend as they knew it. Whatever it may be, it’s perilous. Continuing life as usual at school, pretending that Hikaru isn’t missing, seems absurd…but when it so closely resembles and behaves like Hikaru…

If you’re eager to follow the anime as it comes out later this year and haven’t yet delved into The Summer Hikaru Died, now could be an ideal moment! Given that it’s only four years old, there isn’t a massive backlog of chapters to catch up on. As I write this, 29 chapters have been published. For those who prefer physical copies, four English volumes are available currently, with the fifth one due for release in March.
