Netflix's Devil May Cry Anime Trailer Has Dante, Demon Slaying, and Devil Hunting

As a lifelong gaming enthusiast who grew up battling hordes of demons as Dante in the Devil May Cry series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Netflix’s upcoming anime adaptation! The trailer left me speechless with its stunning visuals and the promise of an epic storyline that stays true to the source material.

Jackpot. Netflix pulled the (devil) trigger on the stylish first trailer for the Devil May Cry anime series from Adi Shankar (Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix), based on the Capcom video game created by Hideki Kamiya. “This guy, he’s something else. The way he moves. The hits he took. His name: Dante,” intones a voice over footage of the half-human, half-demon devil hunter for hire with his magic sword, Rebellion, and dual-wielded pistols, Ebony & Ivory.

During Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024 event, hosted by Joe Manganiello, the trailer for “Devil May Cry” was unveiled on Thursday. At the end of the trailer, a pocket watch could be heard ticking, belonging to the demonic White Rabbit character from the “DMC3” manga. This eight-episode series will debut in April 2025 exclusively on Netflix.

With confidence, Shankar, the series creator and showrunner of the DMC anime adaptation, shared that they are putting in a tremendous effort due to their passion for the franchise and their desire to produce an exceptional show. He stated that his ambition wasn’t merely to create another animated series; rather, he aims to craft one of the best shows on Netflix, full stop. Shankar, who is also an executive producer alongside Alex Larsen (creator of Netflix originals Yasuke and Bodied), added that being involved in something you deeply care about is exciting. He expressed delight at working with talented collaborators like Studio Mir, Alex Larsen, and Netflix, who have been trailblazers in the adult animation streaming space. Therefore, rest assured, they are putting in a great deal of effort because they love the franchise and want to deliver something outstanding – something that will endure over time.

This show, known for being produced by the renowned Seoul studio, Studio Mir (responsible for ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’, ‘Avatar: The Legend of Korra’, ‘My Adventures With Superman’, and ‘X-Men ’97’), is co-executive produced by Hideaki Itsuno from Capcom, a name synonymous with ‘Devil May Cry 2’, and Seung-wook Lee from Studio Mir, who’s also worked on the video game adaptation ‘Dota: Dragon’s Blood’.

In the animated series titled “Devil May Cry,” a mysterious plot unfolds at the border connecting the human and demonic dimensions. Amidst this chaos stands Dante, a mercenary with a knack for slaying demons, who happens to be unaware that the destiny of both realms rests on his shoulders. Little does he know that his brother, the Dark Slayer Vergil, and the heavily-armed character named Mary or Lady will also feature in this storyline.

2001 saw the release of Devil May Cry, which has since given birth to four console-based sequels, a 2013 reboot named DmC: Devil May Cry, and an animated series titled Devil May Cry: The Animated Series in 2007. In April 2025, Netflix will unveil their take on the anime adaptation of Devil May Cry.
