Dante’s latest Netflix animated series has been a huge success, leading directly to the confirmation of a second season for Devil May Cry. The creator, Adi Shankar, is undoubtedly overjoyed by this development, but he’s got more video game franchises on his mind. Previously, Shankar has worked on adapting series like Castlevania and Far Cry for Netflix. However, it appears that Shankar plans to keep things under wraps in the future. In fact, Shankar has hinted at one day delving into Solid Snake’s world of espionage.
In a recent conversation, Shankar has expressed his commitment to bringing the Metal Gear series to life as an animated adaptation. However, he cautioned that fans should not anticipate its release in 2025. As of now, the Metal Gear franchise remains unadapted, making this potential series a highly anticipated development for many gamers, particularly those following Solid Snake’s adventures. During our discussion with Shankar at egmr.ru, he was tight-lipped about the possibility of adapting other Capcom franchises for Netflix, simply replying that he can neither confirm nor deny any plans at this time.

Metal Gear: A Very Different Demon
The Metal Gear series, although action-packed, deviates from the demon hunting style prevalent in games like Dante’s. Instead, it delves deeply into real-world political intrigue and espionage, with a touch of ambiguous supernatural elements. In 20XX, a remastered version of one of the series’ most cherished installments, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is slated for release on gaming consoles, offering a fresh coat of modern graphics to this fan-favorite title.
Information about a potential live-action movie for Metal Gear has been circulating over time, unrelated to any project by Adi Shankar. Last year, Hollywood producer Avi Arad mentioned that the script is still being developed, stating, “We’re still refining the script, but I can’t discuss it yet. I believe everyone will be thrilled and surprised. These are films I want to make as well as possible, you know? I think getting Metal Gear right will undoubtedly be impressive because I think it offers a more meditative experience than many other adaptations. Personally, I aim for it to be exceptional.
Adi Shankar’s Animated Future
Although the sequel of “Devil May Cry” has been confirmed, it remains unclear what lies ahead for some of Shankar’s other Netflix projects, such as “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix” and “Castlevania: Nocturne.” At this point, neither series has announced a return, but given Netflix’s continued interest in video game adaptations, it appears they are far from wrapping up their explorations in this area.
