Dante is ready to embark on another transition from the realm of video games to anime, as Netflix is readying for “Devil May Cry” to enter its collection of animated adaptations. The success of shows like “Castlevania” and “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix” has inspired executive producer Adi Shankar to dive headfirst into the Capcom series. The show is scheduled to debut on April 3rd next month, and Netflix is creating excitement with the help of Papa Roach and a sneak peek at the new villains who will present Dante with some of his toughest monster-hunting obstacles yet.
Instead of delving into Dante’s past stories, the upcoming series will center around entirely fresh villains emerging within the Devil May Cry universe. The main antagonist, Mundus, has been teased in promotional content, but he won’t stand alone. Various new adversaries have made appearances in trailers, and you can even see a newly released poster featuring them, along with Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” tune. Given that the series launch is tied to Limp Bizkit’s “Rolling,” it seems that Shankar and his team are gearing up for an amusing style in this series.
Adi Shankar Talks Devil May Cry
Previously this year, the originator of the “Devil May Cry” series excited fans on social media platforms. By discussing the unique spin on a well-known character, Shankar shared, “My DMC Universe is based on the late ’90s/early 2000s PlayStation 2 era. It’s not set in contemporary times but rather in my recollection of the world, before and after 9/11. The music selections mirror this. My series combines hits from that time period with iconic tunes from the DMC franchise (reimagined by @powergloveaudio). You’ll be blown away by this soundtrack. Anime fans will be taken aback by this soundtrack. Winners!
For quite some time now, Shankar has been an enthusiastic devotee of the “Devil May Cry” video game series, often donning costumes based on Dante’s character from it. As the executive producer works on the animated adaptation, he has emphasized that his extensive familiarity with the franchise is instrumental in shaping this fresh interpretation. Adi has also brought up the less popular “Devil May Cry” stage play, titled “Devil May Cry: The Live Hacker,” demonstrating the vastness of the fandom’s depth.
Devil May Cry’s Future
Currently, there’s no official announcement about a second season for Devil May Cry, but given that the Castlevania series has already produced six seasons, it’s possible that Dante could have a promising future. In the realm of video games, the fifth installment of the Devil May Cry series was its most recent and possibly concluding chapter from Capcom. Interestingly enough, the animated series Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners revitalized its source material, Cyberpunk 2077, so it’s not unthinkable that Dante could follow a similar path.
