Approximately a year past, in celebration of Minecraft’s 15-year milestone, Netflix disclosed that animation studio WildBrain was working on an animated series adaptation based on the popular game, destined for their streaming platform.
Ever since the release of the Minecraft Movie, which has been a massive hit at the box office, the popularity of its gaming world has soared to unprecedented heights.
However, there has been no update on the Netflix series – until now.
During a talk at the Annecy Animation Film Festival, Dominique Bazay, head of children’s content acquisitions for Netflix, shared details and insights about their upcoming animation series, as well as the talented group behind it.
According to What’s on Netflix, the leadership roles for this upcoming series will be filled by executive producers and showrunners Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander. Meanwhile, the writing team will be spearheaded by AC Bradley, who previously worked on “What If…?”.
It was later confirmed that Australian-based animation studio Flying Bark is working on the show.
Regarding the show, Bazay expressed his enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to be working on an animated series set within the Minecraft universe for Netflix. We’re closely collaborating with our partners at Mojang Studios, the original creators of Minecraft, during the creation of this unique new animated series.
There’s no denying the affection for this game, which has been evident in recent months. It attracts fans of all ages, and I take great pride in our creative team behind the show, who are themselves ardent admirers. They spend a lot of time playing it and have cultivated a deep appreciation for the way it encourages self-expression.
She commented on Adams and Ksander, stating, “Clearly, their aim is to craft something genuine and reminiscent of Minecraft, while simultaneously providing fans with a fresh, unique universe to explore.
Our aim is to please our loyal fans who have been with us for a while, while simultaneously attracting new fans to join us through this upcoming series.
This sounds similar to the approach taken with by A Minecraft Movie’s director Jared Hess.
While creating this movie, we needed to take on a mindset of possibilities. Essentially, it felt like we could practically accomplish any idea that came to mind.
