Netflix’s One Piece Chopper Reveal Raises a Big Question About Franky

Previously this year, Netflix unveiled the first glimpse of the live-action adaptation of Tony Tony Chopper, which made its debut in season two of One Piece. The much-anticipated introduction of Chopper, the Straw Hat’s medical professional, had fans buzzing for a while, as they pondered how the reindeer character would be portrayed. Since Netflix announced that Tony Tony would be a CGI character, viewers are now left wondering about how Franky will be presented, given that “Cutty Flam” possesses human dimensions but also boasts several mechanical enhancements.

In simple terms, Tony Tony Chopper, a completely computer-generated character from the anime series “One Piece”, will be played by actress Mikaela Hoover in the upcoming second season. She won’t just voice the Straw Hat doctor but also create his facial expressions for the animated character. The exact release date for the second season is yet to be revealed, but it’s expected in 2026. Since Drum Island, where Chopper was first introduced, will play a significant role in the live-action series, other characters from this storyline might also appear. Given that Chopper transforms into various forms in “One Piece”, using CG for his creation seems fitting. The method of bringing Franky, the cyborg character, to life is still undecided.

Franky In Live Action

It’s unlikely we’ll see the character Franky, also known as Cutty Flam, in the live-action version of “One Piece” anytime soon, giving Netflix ample time to decide on his introduction to the series. At this point, the live-action adaptation will need to cover the Alabasta and Skypiea arcs before delving into the captivating tale of Water 7. The number of seasons required to fully portray both storylines is currently unknown. It seems that Franky may not have to mirror the live-action version of Chopper in his introduction.

Instead of being similar to a reindeer doctor, Franky, unlike his fellow crew member, may possess cybernetic upgrades that grant him exceptional combat skills and shipbuilding prowess. However, Tom’s protege maintains a distinctly human appearance. Over time, as the story unfolds in One Piece, Franky undergoes changes to enhance his physical strength, making his frame considerably larger to face future challenges. In casting an actor for the role of Franky, using prosthetics seems most suitable, and judicious use of computer-generated imagery can further help bring the Straw Hats’ shipwright to life on screen.

Future Straw Hats Brought To Life

It’s clear that Franky isn’t the type to join Luffy’s crew. After Franky became a part of the Straw Hat Pirates, the creator, Eiichiro Oda, introduced characters like Brook and Jinbe instead. Similar to Chopper, it seems likely that Brook will need to be created with CG because his character is a skeleton that walks, talks, and sings, which doesn’t have any human-like appearance. As for Jinbe, the fishman who recently joined the Thousand Sunny, we can expect the Netflix series to depict him using prosthetics and makeup like other fishmen, such as Arlong. So, we assume that this method will be used for Jinbe as well, given that he is a samurai shark man.

It’s unlikely that fans will see all the characters from the Netflix live-action adaptation of “One Piece” anytime soon, given that it took almost two years for the first season to premiere and multiple seasons typically take years to produce. With the creators being so dedicated to staying true to the original story, there’s no sign of any quick solutions appearing in the popular series. Fingers crossed that all Straw Hats will eventually make an appearance before the final season!
