Netflix's Pokemon Live-Action Series Is Still in the Works: Report

As someone who grew up with the original Game Boy and Pokemon Red cartridge, hearing about this live-action series on Netflix is like finding a long-lost Pokeball in my backpack. I remember spending countless hours catching ’em all, from Bulbasaur to Charizard, and now it seems those adventures may continue in a new format.

It’s often said that the past never truly fades away, and this seems to hold true for the beloved Pokémon franchise. Over time, we’ve observed the blockbuster series circle back with references to its history. Currently, the intellectual property ranks among the highest-earning in the world, and a fresh report has unearthed some of its past secrets. It’s been quite a while since we heard any news about Pokémon’s streaming journey on Netflix, but it appears that the project is still very much alive.

On social media, a trusted insider called Daniel Richtman (Daniel RPK) ignited excitement among Pokemon enthusiasts by sharing that Netflix’s live-action project is allegedly still being developed, with writer and showrunner Joe Henderson attached to it. In other words, the rumors about this project continue to circulate.

In terms of the TV series, specific plot points about Pokemon haven’t been revealed yet, but according to DanielRPK, the show is expected to feature the character Red, a figure well-known among Pokemon enthusiasts. Ash Ketchum was actually modeled after Red, and he was the original protagonist of the franchise. While fans of the manga got to know Red through print, Red came to life in the first generation of Pokemon games. Even the Pokemon anime introduced Red through the miniseries “Pokemon Generations”, so Netflix might draw inspiration from this series for their adaptation.

Since last year’s announcement of a live-action Pokemon adaptation by Netflix, there hasn’t been much news regarding it. However, fans have already had a taste of the Pokemon world through the 2019 release of “Detective Pikachu,” a live-action movie produced by Warner Bros. and The Pokemon Company with Ryan Reynolds as the voice actor for the main character. A sequel to Detective Pikachu was announced, but updates on it have been scarce since its premiere. It seems like the project might be on hold indefinitely, and truthfully, Pikachu deserves more attention than this.
