As a die-hard fan of the macabre and all things gothic, I can’t help but be utterly thrilled about the upcoming season of Wednesday! With Lady Gaga joining the cast, expectations are skyrocketing, and I for one can’t wait to see what she brings to the table.
On Wednesday, the show exceeded all predictions and became one of Netflix’s most successful series to date. Now, the streaming service finds itself facing a multitude of enthusiastic viewers eagerly anticipating an even better Season 2. In response, Netflix is pulling out all the stops, with Lady Gaga set to join the cast.
Although we’re eager for any Gaga involvement, Netflix has chosen to maintain a mysterious demeanor, keeping details about her character in “Wednesday” under wraps. However, with numerous plot points left unresolved from the first season, we can speculate where Lady Gaga might make an appearance.
5. Principal Weems’ Successor
Larissa Weems’ passing created a substantial power gap at Nevermore Academy, as she was a shapeshifter who had safeguarded the academy’s most hidden secrets for many years. By skillfully navigating between the mainstream society and the outsider group, Weems maintained a delicate equilibrium. Consequently, the incoming principal will need to manage the repercussions of Tyler’s Hyde transformation and the ensuing concerns about student security while preserving the centuries-old custom of shielding outcasts.
Lady Gaga is perfect for the role of the new principal. Even before she began to build her Hollywood career, the performer used her music to create a community of outcasts in the real world. Lady Gaga’s art is about accepting the differences and being proud of what makes you creepy and kooky. In addition, if we look at Gaga’s acting history for a hint, her portrayal of the Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel shows her ability to embody an authority figure who maintains control through charm and fear. Like Weems, the Countess harbored dark secrets while protecting her chosen family, making Gaga uniquely qualified to portray the new head of Nevermore Academy.
4. Grandmama Addams
In the upcoming Season 2 of Wednesday, we can expect an addition to the Addams Family with the introduction of Grandmama, a character that some fans, including this writer, are eagerly anticipating. In the world of the Addams Family, Grandmama is a potent witch, well-versed in concocting potions, casting hexes, and delving into dark magic – all essential elements of the family’s supernatural legacy. The first season of Wednesday introduced Jenna Ortega’s character as a powerful psychic on a path to greatness. If Season 2 follows the pattern of delving into the Addams Family’s past to better understand their present, Grandmama could be an ideal guide in the mysterious world of the occult. Given her traditional role as both a mentor and a source of mischief, she would undoubtedly add an extra dose of chaos to the storyline.
Lady Gaga’s dramatic flair could seamlessly blend with the gloomy charm of the Addams Family, particularly if she portrays a character who prepares lethal potions with the same enthusiasm as baking desserts. Moreover, having Gaga play Grandmama would undeniably be an unconventional choice by Netflix, as it’s not typically expected for a pop star to depict an elderly character from the Addams Family.
3. Morning Song’s Second-in-Command
In Season 1, it was shown that Morning Song is a menacing cult which takes advantage of the powers of sirens. One of its prominent members is Gabrielle, Bianca’s mother. Under Gideon’s guidance, they manipulate and control people using these supernatural abilities. As recruitment drops and negative attention grows, according to Gabrielle, Morning Song may be forced into extreme actions due to a critical juncture they are facing.
Presenting a prominent cult member could enable Season 2 of Wednesday to delve further into the cult’s hidden depths, a previously uncharted aspect of the show’s supernatural realm. Lady Gaga’s exceptional musical prowess and acting abilities make her an ideal fit for this part. In reality, Gaga employs her powerful singing voice to enchant people on a regular basis. Therefore, why not portray a formidable siren in Season 2 of Wednesday?
2. Ophelia Frump
Ophelia, Morticia’s sibling, is one of the most vibrant characters in the Addams Family legend. She’s recognized by her long, blonde hair adorned with daisies and her garden filled with carnivorous plants, offering a distinct form of darkness compared to Morticia’s sophisticated gothic style. In the comics, she’s portrayed as an unpredictable and wild woman whose actions often stir up turmoil within the family, traits that align with Lady Gaga’s artistic persona.
In an engaging manner, her opening scene might delve into Morticia’s past and the magical schooling shared by the sisters, thereby connecting Wednesday with the broader realm of the Addams family. Moreover, Ophelia could disclose the origins of the Frump clan, a family history that was exchanged for the Addams when Morticia wed Gomez.
1. A “Monster” Mentor
Initially, when the series debuted on Netflix, Jenna Ortega proposed an idea for Lady Gaga’s potential role: a character who, like Wednesday and Mrs. Thornhill, had a relationship similar to “two creatures that comprehend each other.” At that time, it was simply a hopeful suggestion from Ortega. Now, her dream has become reality.
In Season 1, Mrs. Thornhill served as both mentor and adversary for the character Wednesday. If Lady Gaga were to take on this role, she could portray a multi-faceted character who sees a reflection of herself in Wednesday yet poses a challenge for her. This dynamic, combined with Wednesday’s burgeoning powers and her quest for guidance following Goody’s spirit helping her unleash her abilities in Season 1, would make for an intriguing narrative. Given that Ortega is serving as a producer for Season 2, it’s plausible that she influenced the decision to have Gaga portray this complex character.
Wednesday Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
