As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I must admit, the free release of “Grim Idle” for Xbox consoles has piqued my curiosity. Having played everything from Pong to Red Dead Redemption 2, and having sunk countless hours into Diablo, Dark Souls, and Grim Dawn, I’m always eager to explore new RPG clickers that promise a fresh take on the genre.
A newly released Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S game is free for everybody over on the Microsoft Store. The game in question only came to Xbox consoles this week, but has been available on Steam, where it is also free, since January 30, 2024. And according to Steam users, it is a decent time. To date, the game has 2,585 user reviews. And 78 percent of these user reviews are positive, giving the game a “Mostly Positive” rating. This more or less lines up with the user review rating on the Microsoft Store, where it currently boasts four out of five stars after 65 user reviews.
As for how well this game is being received by critics, we’re unsure since there are no reviews available on Metacritic at the moment, and it seems improbable that this situation will be different in the near future.
The game is categorized as a “clicker/RPG” style reminiscent of games such as Diablo, Dark Souls, and Grim Dawn. To clarify, this game is called “Grim Idle,” developed by Evil Charm Games, while Desert Water Games managed the Xbox version.
Grim Idle is an IDLE/RPG clicker game where you’ll discover your own approach to navigate through forgotten realms. Drawing inspiration from games like Diablo, Grim Dawn, Dark Souls, it offers intricate character advancement, a wealth of distinctive items, and both active and passive gameplay styles.

It’s important to mention that the game is compatible with Steam Deck, which raises the possibility of future compatibility with Microsoft’s upcoming handheld console (Xbox project). However, it’s important to note that the release of this handheld console is still years away, so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to play this idle RPG on it anytime soon or even at all, as there’s no assurance it will ever hit the market.
From my perspective as a gaming enthusiast, the length of this game isn’t excessive, but it’s also not drawn-out. The total playtime remains undetermined due to insufficient data, but I can confirm that completing all Achievements takes roughly an hour. This suggests that the game may not be overly long, yet its design emphasizes replayability.
