For those eagerly waiting for a Nintendo Switch 2 to play their favorite Animal Crossing game, there’s some intriguing news. Although Nintendo hasn’t confirmed a new Animal Crossing title specifically for the upcoming Switch 2, it’s likely that we’ll see another mainline Animal Crossing game soon given that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was launched on the original Nintendo Switch in 2020. What has been officially announced is Nintendo’s plans to bring Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the Nintendo Switch 2.
It’s been unveiled that users of Animal Crossing: New Horizons can effortlessly move their island and save files from the Nintendo Switch over to the new Nintendo Switch console. After transition, the data will be accessible in both devices, however, the island will appear exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
In simple terms, Takuhiro Dohta from Nintendo explained through Polygon that when you transfer your system, all data including saved files will stay on the original Nintendo Switch. However, when you upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2, those files will also be accessible there. As for the Animal Crossing island, it will physically move over from the Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Instead of using the cloud or transfer tool app, you can directly perform a system transfer to Nintendo Switch 2 if it’s yours and you’ve saved data on it. This means Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can easily transfer their islands and data from their original Switch to the new one without hassle. If you don’t own a Switch, you will need to utilize the app or cloud method for the transfer process.
At this moment, Nintendo has not shared any information about updating Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. So, it’s safe to say that we don’t have a reason to anticipate a revival of support for the game at this time.
