New Coco Ride Announced for Disney California Adventure

As a seasoned gamer and Disney enthusiast with over three decades of immersing myself in the magical realms of Mickey Mouse and friends, I must say that the recent D23 announcement has left me positively enchanted! The prospect of experiencing the vibrant world of “Coco” firsthand at Disney California Adventure Park is truly a dream come true.

On the last day of D23, there were several unveilings from Marvel Animation, partnerships for Disney-themed video games, and updates for enthusiasts of Disney theme parks! Fans eager to infuse a touch of enchantment into their lives with the rides at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney California Adventure Park, and beyond will soon witness numerous new attractions. Classic series such as Monsters, Inc. and Cars, along with newer Disney/Pixar sensations like Coco and Encanto, are set to join the mix over the next few years. In this presentation, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro took center stage to share these thrilling announcements with fans.

2026 will mark the commencement of production on a new attraction at Disney California Adventure, themed around Pixar Animation Studios’ movie “Coco”. Visitors can expect an immersive experience filled with music and beloved characters like Miguel, as they journey between realms – the world of the living and the land of the dead. As D’Amaro explained, we will be using cutting-edge Audio-Animatronic technology to breathe life into our skeletal cast, creating an extraordinary visual spectacle that you’ll have to witness firsthand to truly believe.

Adrian Molina and Lee Unkrich’s 2017 animated movie, Santa Cecilia, serves as the setting for the new boat ride, which D’Amaro described as being strongly influenced by Disneyland classics like the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. The concept art, available below, suggests a striking resemblance to these popular attractions.

In its debut, the movie produced by The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures garnered widespread praise from critics and eventually earned over $800 million globally at the box office. At the 90th Academy Awards, Coco won accolades for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me.” This song was a key element of the film, and as stated by D’Amaro, music will also play a significant role in the attraction, much like it does in many other productions.

In the tale, young Miguel, who dreams of becoming a skilled musician like his hero Ernesto de la Cruz, is pursued. However, there’s a hitch: his family has observed a long-standing prohibition against music. An unexpected turn of events leads him to the realm of the deceased, where he encounters a witty and charming character named Hector. Together, they venture on an extraordinary quest to uncover the truth about Miguel’s ancestry and the reasons behind his family’s musical ban.

Stay tuned to ComicBook for updates on the Disney-themed attractions as they become available.
