New DC Comics Video Game Quietly in the Works at WB Games

New DC Comics Video Game Quietly in the Works at WB Games

As a seasoned gamer with decades of DC Comics gaming history under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about this new game leak from WB Games Montreal. I’ve seen the rise and fall of many DC games over the years, from the iconic Batman: Arkham series to the more recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

It appears that a new video game related to DC Comics characters might have been revealed through a recent job posting at Warner Bros. Games. Currently, two DC-themed projects are confirmed to be in development: “Batman: Arkham Shadow,” which is an upcoming VR title by Camouflaj set for release on Meta Quest 3 platforms within the next fortnight; and “Wonder Woman” from Monolith, first announced in 2021 but not yet publicly demonstrated. Now, there’s speculation about a possible third DC game in development, but specific details regarding the character or team it revolves around remain undisclosed at this time.

A Senior Producer position has been advertised at WB Games Montreal for their Game Development team, which could potentially be linked to DC Comics universe projects. However, this connection was later removed from the job listing, leading to speculation about whether it was an oversight or a deliberate move to keep the project details confidential.

As a dedicated gamer, I can confidently say that it seems highly probable that WB Games Montreal will continue working on DC Comics titles, considering their extensive history with these projects. Ever since they were founded in 2010, they’ve been the main force behind games like Batman: Arkham Origins and the upcoming Gotham Knights. They’ve even provided support for this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Given their track record, it’s almost a given that we can expect more DC adventures from them in the future.

Which DC Game Could Be Next?

It’s clear that the main point of speculation about this news is which DC property WB Games Montreal might be developing now. Given their previous work, Batman appears to be a strong possibility, especially considering a potential sequel to ‘Gotham Knights’. However, it’s important to note that upon its release in 2022, ‘Gotham Knights’ didn’t seem to have exceptional sales. While it wasn’t a complete flop like ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’, it also didn’t receive impressive critical or commercial acclaim to justify a sequel.

A possible character that WB Games Montreal might consider collaborating with is Superman. For years, DC enthusiasts have expressed their desire for a Superman video game, but since 2006’s Superman Returns, the character hasn’t had a standalone game of his own. Fans generally find it challenging to adapt Superman into a game, yet WB Games Montreal might be able to solve the puzzle where other studios couldn’t.

There’s a possibility that a particular DC team might receive its own video game instead of just focusing on a single character. This is evident from the success of games like Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights, which indicate that the folks at WB Games favor cooperative-focused titles. Consequently, teams such as the Justice League, Teen Titans, or even the Green Lantern Corps could potentially get their own game, enabling multiple players to play together once more.

At present, the overall future of WB Games is unclear since they have only disclosed two games – Batman: Arkham Shadow and Wonder Woman. With The Game Awards 2024 scheduled for a couple of months from now, there’s a possibility that we might learn more about Wonder Woman or even discover an entirely new game during the annual event.

For now, which DC Comics franchise do you anticipate WB Games Montreal will take up next? Will it concentrate on a solitary hero or an entire team? Don’t forget to share your thoughts with me on my social media handle @MooreMan12.
