The Deus Ex video game series has been in a sort of hiatus for several years now. Yet, even though Square Enix, its former owner, and Embracer, the current one, have shown little interest, or allegedly canceled a sequel from two years ago, Eidos Montreal is still striving to bring back this engaging series.
After the latest round of job cuts at the studio, sources close to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson have indicated that the studio is actively seeking support from external partners and publishers for a new Deus Ex project. Regrettably, some potential investors appear to view it as a specialized or narrow-interest market, while others are hesitant due to perceived financial risks.
Remarkably, the idea was characterized as being both charming and innovative, yet it fell short of the “anticipated quality or level usually associated with the Deus Ex series.” Interpret this as you may, but the anticipation for a fresh installment persists.
In 2016, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was the final installment in the series, where the story revolved around Adam Jensen as he pursued the Illuminati. Although it received positive reviews, some people criticized its abrupt ending. As of May 2022, combined sales for this game and its predecessor, Human Revolution, reached 12 million units.
