New Everdell Game Announced

As a seasoned board game enthusiast with a penchant for strategic worker placement games and a soft spot for the whimsical woodland world of Everdell, I can’t help but feel a flutter of excitement at the announcement of Everdell Duo. With my gaming group often split between two and four players, having a 2-player version of this beloved game is like finding the perfect puzzle piece that’s been missing from our collection for too long.

Coming soon, a new two-player adaptation of the popular game “Everdell” has been announced by Starling Games – it’s called “Everdell Duo.” Similar to its original version, this new edition allows players to construct their own woodland city by placing workers to gather resources and playing cards. The gameplay spans across four seasons as competitors try to reach specific events for higher point totals. Unlike the standard Everdell experience, Everdell Duo features just two players who can either compete against each other or collaborate to earn the highest combined score.

One key variation in this game is that the ‘meadow’, a shared space where any player may take cards, features a sun and moon token that shifts after each turn taken by players. Players can only seize cards from the meadow when their character is in contact with either of these tokens, thereby emphasizing the strategic importance of taking turns at opportune moments.

The Everdell Duo package features more than 30 unique events and offers a collaborative campaign experience. The creators, Starling Games, are planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign for this game later in the year.

The Everdell series has been a hit for Starling Games, boasting five distinct expansions that enhance the original game by introducing additional resources or new strategies. More lately, Starling Games has broadened the realm of Everdell (inhabited by various woodland critters) with new locations. For instance, Everdell: Farshore introduces a nautical twist to worker placement mechanics, allowing players to synchronize their construction timing with favorable winds. Meanwhile, My L’il Everdell offers a more approachable take on the franchise.
