Prior to the Beatles’ fame, Marvel Comics introduced its own famous quartet, known as the Fantastic Four. In 1962’s issue #3 of The Fantastic Four, characters Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Girl), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing) fought against the Mole Man’s island of monsters and the Skrulls while dressed casually. This battle catapulted them into superhero stardom. The iconic issue by creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby was significant because it was their first appearance in colorful costumes, as well as the introduction of their flying vehicle, the Fantasti-Car, and their hidden, state-of-the-art headquarters, the Baxter Building.
Additionally, the story included a pin-up page illustration by Kirby of the Human Torch, which eagle-eyed fans might have noticed in a brief clip from Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps movie.
In the short video shared below, Johnny Storm, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, is seen savoring a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal for dinner. The box, fitting for the era, features the mascot L.C. the Leprechaun, who first appeared in 1964. On the back of the box, there’s an image of him blazing up as Human Torch, a depiction inspired by Jack Kirby’s illustration from Fantastic Four #3.

Johnny informs Susan (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed (Pedro Pascal) that they’re running behind schedule, to which Susan replies in surprise, questioning Johnny’s meaning since she hadn’t yet shared the news of her pregnancy.
However, Johnny clarifies his statement, saying “You’re late for dinner” instead.
Previously, director Matt Shakman noted about Quinn’s portrayal of Johnny in the 1960s-set Fantastic Four reboot that “He is exceptionally intelligent.” He added, “His presence on that spaceship serves a purpose, and it’s easy to overlook this in some comic stories. Despite his constant use of humor, he has shown great heroism, making him one of the most valiant among them. Since he is Sue’s brother, they share similar qualities.
He’s quite bold, sometimes even offensive, yet he has a good sense of humor,” Quinn noted. “During our discussion with Kevin Feige, we reflected on past portrayals and the cultural shift. The old image of him as a womanizer and carefree playboy might not be appealing today. This new version of Johnny is more considerate towards others’ feelings, and I hope it showcases some self-awareness behind his attention-seeking actions.

But the challenges don’t end there; when Galactus sets his sights on consuming our planet and everyone on it, things take an unsettlingly personal turn.
