It’s time for a renumbering! Exactly two years have passed since Marvel restarted The Fantastic Four comic series with a fresh creative team (Ryan North as the writer and artists Iban Coello, Ivan Fiorelli, and Carlos Gomez) in 2022. This followed Dan Slott’s 46-issue run on this iconic title known as “The World’s Greatest Comic Magazine.” Last month, Marvel revealed that the ongoing Fantastic Four comic, written by North with art by Cory Smith (Wolverine), would conclude with issue #33 in June. The new Fantastic Four #1 (the 727th issue in the series) will debut as the eighth volume, coinciding with Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” which is scheduled for release in July.
In this project, North, who is currently penning the main title of the ongoing ‘One World Under Doom’ publication, will continue in his writing role. He will be partnered by artist Humberto Ramos, known for his work on ‘The Spectacular Spider-Men’.
Initially, the creative duo of North and Ramos will collaborate on a story featuring Marvel’s First Family in the special issue “Free Comic Book Day 2025: Fantastic Four/Giant-Size X-Men #1″ (set for release on May 3). Following this collaboration, the new chapter for the Fantastic Four will commence with the oversized issue “Fantastic Four Vol. 8 #1″ (due out on July 9), marking a fresh start for the team.
In simpler terms, Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s editor for Fantastic Four, shared on his blog that a fresh Fantastic Four movie is coming soon, sparking increased curiosity about our cosmic group among many new fans. Brevoort also addressed a fan’s query regarding the practice of restarting the comic series numbering while retaining the same writer, as exemplified by the two different #1 issues of Daredevil penned by Chip Zdarsky in 2019 and 2022.
Brevoort said, “It’s always nicer to offer such individuals an effortless way up with the new #1 instead of relying on them to hop aboard for #34 or any other number. We do have a fresh artist, the excellent Humberto Ramos, along with a significant storyline to kick things off. So, I hope it will seem worthwhile to you. If it’s seen as a big cash grab, that’s fine by me since I appreciate money and it helps us maintain our operations and produce more issues.
Marvel is set to introduce a fresh, timeless series called “Fantastic Four Fanfare” comprising four issues.
