New God of War Game Continues to Quietly Staff Up

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest developments at Santa Monica Studio. The God of War series has been a cornerstone of my gaming library for years, and the prospect of a new installment is nothing short of exhilarating.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve noticed that Santa Monica Studio, the mastermind behind the epic God of War series, seems to be expanding its team. After unleashing the highly anticipated God of War Ragnarok towards the end of 2022, they’ve kept a relatively low profile. However, they did treat us with a free DLC for Ragnarok named Valhalla by the end of 2023. Yet, it’s been unclear what’s been brewing behind closed doors. Recently, new job postings suggest that God of War continues to be a significant focus for this studio, hinting at potential exciting developments ahead in the series.

Lately, Santa Monica Studio has posted a job opportunity for a Senior Combat Designer within their company. The job listing doesn’t specify which game the successful applicant will be working on, but it does require candidates to have an extensive understanding of combat design elements, systems, mechanics, and enemies from both _God of War_ and _God of War Ragnarok_. Consequently, it appears that this role is linked to God of War and may well pertain to the upcoming game in the series.

Since Santa Monica Studio has consistently been the primary developer for the God of War franchise, it’s no surprise they are currently expanding their team for a new project. What is unexpected, however, is that alongside this new God of War title, Santa Monica Studio appears to be working on a completely new intellectual property (IP) as well. At the moment, specifics about this fresh IP are limited, but several members from Santa Monica Studio have hinted in recent times that they are developing something other than God of War.

Generally speaking, most AAA game studios worldwide usually concentrate on developing just one game at a time. However, if Santa Monica Studio is indeed working simultaneously on a new IP and another God of War installment, it would be an unusual move in today’s industry. Whether we’ll get a glimpse of either project soon or not is uncertain, but it’s clear that one of PlayStation’s major studios has a lot of active projects ongoing currently.
