New Green Lantern Rumor Reveals Potential DC Actors If Josh Brolin Passes

As a seasoned comic book and superhero enthusiast with decades of immersive entertainment under my belt, I must say, the potential casting for the upcoming Green Lantern series, Lanterns, has me genuinely excited! The prospect of Josh Brolin, who’s already proven his mettle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other comic book adaptations, stepping into the role of Hal Jordan is truly tantalizing.

It was recently announced that the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming TV series titled “Lanterns” might have been given to Josh Brolin, who is well-known for his portrayals of comic book and superhero characters such as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cable in Deadpool 2, Jonah Hex, and Dwight in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The upcoming TV show Lanterns is said to depict Hal Jordan as a seasoned Green Lantern, mirroring the gritty style of HBO’s True Detective. There are also whispers about another potential casting choice for the Green Lantern series if Brolin decides to decline the role.

As per Jeff Sneider’s TheInSneider newsletter, if Brolin decides not to accept the role of Hal Jordan (which is uncertain at this point), Matthew McConaughey could step in as a potential replacement for the character. If McConaughey declines, Ewan McGregor, known for his role in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, might be tapped next. However, Warner Bros. and DC have yet to officially announce casting for the Green Lantern series, as development continues.

Previously, there was talk about Matthew McConaughey taking on a humorous superhero role as Ego the Living Planet in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” but he ultimately ended up voicing a cowboy version of Deadpool in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Ewan McGregor, too, has experience with DC characters, having portrayed Black Mask in the film “Birds of Prey.”

It has been confirmed that Chris Mundy (known for “Ozark” and “True Detective: Night Country”) will take on the role of showrunner for the series titled “Lanterns”. This project was jointly developed with Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”, “The Leftovers”) and Tom King, a winner of the Eisner Award for comics. The storyline of “Lanterns” revolves around John Stewart and Hal Jordan, two interstellar law enforcers who find themselves entangled in a mysterious case on Earth as they delve into an ominous murder investigation set in the heartland of America.

Good news for DC enthusiasts! Even if the DCU’s Green Lantern television series doesn’t start filming, fans can still look forward to seeing Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie set for release in July of 2025. However, it remains uncertain whether Fillion will portray this character again in the potential Lanterns TV series.
