Arc System Works has unveiled a fresh trailer and promotional artwork for the upcoming “Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers” anime. This anime serves as a direct sequel to the game series of the same name, picking up where the storyline from “Guilty Gear -Strive-“, specifically the Another Story arc, left off. The latest trailer offers glimpses into additional scenes, emphasizing the comeback of Sol Badguy and other beloved characters from the Guilty Gear universe. Notably, the recent game installments are renowned for their extended cutscenes without any intervening gameplay; essentially, players experience a film along with their fighting game, showcasing the captivating and vivid world of Guilty Gear. “Dual Rulers” is being animated by studio Sanzigen, aiming to replicate the cel-shaded CGI cutscenes Arc System Works is famous for.
In addition to the recently released trailer for “Dual Rulers”, a new poster was revealed, showcasing an extensive lineup of characters from the games. The protagonist, Sol Badguy, will indeed be present in “Dual Rulers”, but the anime is expected to primarily focus on Sin Kiske. Among the other beloved characters set to appear are Ky Kiske, Dizzy, Bridget, Jack-O, Baiken, Ramlethal, and Elphelt Valentine. A new character called Unika will also take center stage in “Dual Rulers” and is planned to join the roster of “Guilty Gear -Strive-” around Spring 2025. Excitingly, “Dual Rulers” is anticipated to premiere around the same time as Unika’s arrival, on April 5th.
What Will Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers Be About?
In a distant future, researchers uncovered a mysterious energy they called magic. This discovery led to the creation of Gears, artificial beings with ambitions to overthrow mankind, sparking a series of conflicts known as the Crusades. The games are set in a post-Crusade era, with Sol Badguy, a human-Gear hybrid grappling with his complex past, serving as the “Guilty Gear” hunter for other Gears like him. In Strive, Sol’s tale reaches its conclusion, offering him a blissful future, while the remaining characters work towards establishing a harmonious world where humans and Gears can peacefully coexist.
In the world of fighting games, Sin is the half-human, half-machine offspring of Ky Kiske, who initially was an adversary but later became an ally to Sol. The latest installments show Sin as Ky’s apprentice. A stirring event occurred when Ky chose to wed Sin’s mother, Dizzy, a gear being. This union sparked resistance, causing a Unika entity to materialize with the intent of stopping human-gear cohabitation. Eager to challenge and change Unika’s perspective on gears, Sin steps forward in this narrative.
