Bandai Namco and Sunrise have unveiled that a fresh take on the Gundam Seed series, titled Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Recollection, is set to premiere exclusively within the mobile game SD Gundam G Generation Eternal. This new animation will revolve around the two main characters from Seed, Kira and Athrun. The anime takes place in the timeframe between Seed and Seed Destiny. Intriguingly, the mobile game will present this storyline in two separate segments; the initial installment will concentrate on the adventures of Kira, while the following act will center around Athrun. A teaser trailer for Seed Recollection has been released, showcasing glimpses of the innovative mobile suits that the main characters will operate in the upcoming anime.
In the original Gundam Seed series, it was Kira and Athrun who famously operated two different Gundams. Kira controlled the Strike Gundam, followed by the Freedom Gundam, while Athrun handled the Aegis Gundam before moving on to the Justice Gundam. In the sequel, Destiny, they each received enhanced versions of their later Gundams – Kira got the Strike Freedom and Athrun claimed the Infinite Justice. However, prior to acquiring their new mobile suits in Destiny, Kira will drive the Dragoon Strike Gundam, a modified version of the original Strike Gundam, in Seed Recollection. Simultaneously, Athrun will pilot a new adaptation of the Murasame in Seed Recollection. The name “Strike Dragoon” comes from DRAGOON, a system that allows mobile suit pilots to detach smaller weapons and operate them independently from their main robot.
The Mobile Suit Strike Dragoon Is a Gundam Throwback
The DRAGOON system is modeled after the Funnels from the initial timeline of the Mobile Suit Gundam series. Originally appearing in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Funnels have been featured across various Gundam series, even those not belonging to the same universe. For instance, Gundam 00 had a comparable system called Fangs. Usually, these additional artillery systems were mentally controlled by pilots, a skill that only select individuals possessed. The ability for a Gundam to deploy detachable weapons is one of the most captivating and widely appreciated features in the franchise, making it a recurring element. In the series Gundam Seed, the main antagonist, Rau Le Creuset, utilized DRAGOONs to catastrophic effect while piloting the Providence Gundam.
In the future, Kira will acquire his own DRAGOONs with the arrival of the Strike Freedom, but it appears that the Dragoon Strike Gundam will act as a transitional unit for him until he obtains his mecha from Seed Destiny. The trailer for Seed Recollection didn’t show much new animation of the Dragoon Strike; instead, it mainly featured the machine in idle mode. However, there were gameplay clips demonstrating the mecha in action. The Dragoon Strike resembles the classic Strike Gundam with a notable difference: it sports a new backpack that allows pilots to deploy their DRAGOONs. This minor adjustment makes it straightforward to modify older Strike Gundam gunpla models into Dragoon Strike Gundam gunplas.
Kira’s Dragoon Strike, like other main Gundam characters, sports the classic red, white, and blue color pattern. In a surprising twist, Athrun’s Murasame retains its grey hue during combat, contrasting with Athrun’s typical pink and black color scheme. Starting from April 30th, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Recollection is set to debut on the SD Gundam G Generation Eternal game platform.
