New How to Train Your Dragon Teaser Offers Fresh Look at Live-Action Movie

Universal Pictures is encouraging viewers to “enjoy a friendship for the ages” in a fresh teaser for the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. In this preview (available for viewing above), Gerard Butler reprises his role as Chief Stoick the Vast, addressing his son Hiccup (portrayed by The Black Phone’s Mason Thames). Stoick says, “When you wield this axe, you bear us with you.” Hiccup replies, “Dad, I can’t slay dragons.” The teaser then provides brief glimpses into the upcoming film, showcasing Viking battles and Hiccup’s initial encounter with the cherished dragon character, Toothless.

Under the guidance of Oscar-nominated director Dean DeBlois, who is renowned for his work on the original animated movie and its sequels – namely ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’, inspired by Cressida Cowell’s book series – the live-action adaptation of this beloved franchise will soar onto screens in theaters, set to take flight on June 13, 2025.

Additionally, the animated film “How to Train Your Dragon” features actors such as Nico Parker from “The Last of Us,” Nick Frost known for “Shaun of the Dead,” Julian Dennison best known for “Deadpool 2,” Gabriel Howell from “Bodies,” Bronwyn James who starred in “Wicked,” Harry Trevaldwyn from “Smothered,” Ruth Codd seen in “The Midnight Club,” Peter Serafinowicz recognized for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and Murray McArthur, a familiar face from “Game of Thrones.

In the recently unveiled live-action remake teaser by Universal Pictures, the appearance is quite comparable to the initial official trailer that was released approximately two months back. A notable scene emphasized in both teasers is when Hiccup encounters the Night Fury dragon for the first time and tries to kill Toothless while repeating, “I’m a Viking.” However, he fails to harm the dragon because what he had told his father earlier rings true: He can’t slay dragons. The scene then transitions into a memorable moment from the original animated film, where Hiccup extends his hand towards Toothless. Initially hesitant about the human’s intentions, Toothless nuzzles against Hiccup’s outstretched palm when he turns his face away, displaying trust.

At the conclusion of the “Warrior” trailer, there’s a short sequence that showcases the bond between Toothless and Hiccup, depicted through the movie. You can see Toothless peeking at Hiccup while he draws a dragon’s face in the sand, and later, Hiccup laughs as Toothless creates his own artwork using a big stick.

In the realm of captivating television dramas, I found myself making an impressive debut on Apple TV+’s Emmy-winning sci-fi masterpiece, “For All Mankind,” as Daniel Stevens. My first big screen appearance was graced with the coveted lead role of Finney in Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill’s chilling adaptation of Joe Hill’s “The Black Phone.” I am thrilled to step back into the shoes of Finney once more for the highly anticipated sequel, “The Black Phone 2,” where I will be reunited with Ethan Hawke, Madeleine McGraw, and Jeremy Davies.

The 2010 animated original How to Train Your Dragon is available to stream on Max.
