Before its success as an animated show on Amazon Prime Video, “Invincible” was a long-lasting comic book running from 2003 to 2018. Since its ending around seven years ago, there have been no further comic book developments for the property; instead, it has been explored in other realms such as television, movies, and video games. Now, “Invincible” is poised for a comeback in the world of comics by focusing on one of its most beloved secondary characters.

As I, an avid gamer, eagerly share the latest scoop, IGN has dropped some exciting details about “Invincible Universe: Battle Beast.” From its title alone, it’s clear this series is all about our beloved antihero, Battle Beast, who’s a fan-favorite character in the Invincible universe. This book will essentially be a prequel storyline for Battle Beast, picking up from his debut in issue #19 of “Invincible” and leading us towards his second appearance in issue #55.

Renowned author Robert Kirkman will once more take the helm for the “Invincible Universe: Battle Beast” series, working alongside artist Ryan Ottley. The first issue of this series, set to release in April 2025, will boast variant covers from a talented group of artists such as David Finch, E.J. Su, Kael Ngu, Arthur Adams, and Jonboy Meyers.

Kirkman shared his enthusiasm for the Invincible Universe, saying “I simply can’t get enough!”. Transitioning from the comic book series straight into an animated one, he admitted that he hasn’t had much downtime. However, while transforming the series into animation, he’s been eager to explore new ideas! Long-time fans will recognize a significant gap in Battle Beast’s appearances in the series, between issues 19 and 55 of Invincible. There’s plenty of story untold during that period, and Kirkman expressed his excitement about having Ryan Ottley, co-creator of Battle Beast, joining him to fill in those gaps!

Initially, when Robert and I introduced Battle Beast in Invincible issue #19 as a means to expand Invincible’s rogues gallery, I wasn’t certain if he would become a significant recurring character or meet a gruesome end immediately. As it turned out, Robert never failed to surprise us, often teetering on the brink of death and always giving me an exciting opportunity to bring his demise to life visually!

Fortunately, Battle Beast turned out to be adored by fans and survived to spin a bigger yarn,” he went on. “It’s fantastic to collaborate with Robert once more within the Invincible Universe. Previously, I was uncertain about which project to tackle next, but when he suggested we create a Battle Beast series together, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to return to a self-owned comic book, expanding the Invincible Universe further! I’m thrilled to be back at Image Comics and Skybound, and can hardly wait for you to witness the narrative we are developing in this series! I haven’t had this much enjoyment since working on Invincible!

At present, it’s uncertain how long “Invincible Universe: Battle Beast” will last or if it could be the first in a series of Invincible comic projects. However, “Battle Beast” is expected to debut not much after Season 3 of “Invincible” ends on Prime Video, as the show plans to start its new set of episodes on February 6, 2025.
