New Joker: Folie à Deux Trailer Confirms Batman Villain Harvey Dent

As a die-hard fan of DC Comics and the Joker character in particular, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2019 film “Joker.” The just-released full trailer has only fueled my anticipation, as it promises a captivating exploration of Arthur Fleck’s (Joaquin Phoenix) twisted psyche and his connection with Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga), who is set to become the proto-Harley Quinn.

In the new trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” released two years after the 2019 film “Joker,” the notorious clown-turned-criminal Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, is on trial for his riot-instigating actions as the Joker. Currently residing in Arkham Asylum, Gotham City’s infamous clown hero creates a spectacle during his televised trial when he meets and forms an alliance with another patient, Harleen Quinzel, portrayed by Lady Gaga. They discover they share a similar psychiatric condition.

In Todd Phillips’ realistic DC universe, the early version of Harley Quinn isn’t the sole new villain. A closer look at the “Joker 2” trailer with subtitles reveals that Harvey Dent, Gotham City’s dedicated district attorney, is handling the trial of Arthur Fleck in this gritty adaptation.

In Gotham, there are numerous supporters of the Joker, led by Arthur Fleck, who view him as a symbol of resistance. However, Dent clarifies in a voiceover, “They see him as a martyr, but he’s nothing more than a monster.”

Harry Lawtey, an actor known for his roles in “Industry” and “The Pale Blue Eye,” is portraying a Joker-esque version of Harvey Dent. This character has been depicted in various live-action adaptations, including Billy Dee Williams in Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman,” Tommy Lee Jones in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever,” and Aaron Eckhart in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.” Previous portrayals of young Harvey Dent before his transformation into Two-Face include Nicholas D’Agosto on TV’s “Gotham,” and Misha Collins on The CW’s “Gotham Knights.”

In many portrayals of the character, Dent is shown to experience a mental collapse following a brutal assault that leaves him with severe facial scars, allegedly inflicted by a criminal (in The Dark Knight, this role is taken on by the Joker).

Dent is reportedly being considered for the part of The Penguin in “The Batman Part II,” the next installment of Matt Reeves’ crime saga, alongside Josh Hartnett (“Oppenheimer,” “Trap”) and Joel Edgerton (“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Dark Matter.”).

In the film “Joker: Folie ~ Deux,” Oscar-nominated actors Brendan Gleeson from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Catherine Keener of “Get Out” join the cast, alongside Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie Dumond from “Joker.” Additionally, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, and Ken Leung are part of the ensemble, with their specific roles yet to be revealed. The film will hit theaters exclusively on October 4th.
