New Leak Reveals Return of Forgotten PS2 Exclusives

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia upon hearing the rumblings about the potential return of Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army and its sequel. These games were part of my formative years as a gamer, deep into the golden age of the PlayStation 2. I can still remember the thrill of battling supernatural forces with the help of demonic allies, a stark contrast to the more grounded titles that dominated the early days of the PS3.

Two long-forgotten PlayStation 2 (PS2) games are making a comeback, according to a recent leak. The first title emerged towards the tail end of the PS2 era, as PlayStation was preparing for its transition to the PS3 in the same year. Conversely, the second game was released further into the lifespan of the PS2, two years after the launch of the PS3. Despite the late release and the simultaneous introduction of the PS3, this wasn’t unusual given the popularity of the PS2 as the best-selling console in history and the slow start of the PS3, particularly for games originating from Japan, where both these games were developed.

The games under discussion here are Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army and its successor, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. You might recall that these games were initially launched on PlayStation 2 by Atlus, and they’ve been PS2 exclusives for about 18 years (first game) and 16 years (second game). However, the PS3 versions of each game eventually became accessible. They belong to the Devil Summoner series, which is a part of the broader Megami Tensei universe, being the third and fourth installments in their respective sub-series.

It seems that no one had predicted or assumed these games would resurface, but it appears Atlus is indeed planning a comeback. Lately, Atlus has altered the Steam achievements for the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster, and these changes now relate to the Raidou Kuzunoha series.

It’s intriguing that both Atlus and Sega are hinting at the unveiling of no less than three unidentified games during the Tokyo Game Show, which is due later this month.

It seems to me that the recent updates to Nocturne suggest that we might soon see an HD version of Raidou, maybe even as part of a collection. This is just my interpretation though.

As a dedicated gamer, I must admit that currently, we’re in the midst of a buzz due to an unusual Steam alteration and the speculation it has sparked. Regrettably, Atlus or its parent company Sega have yet to address this oddity or the rumors surrounding it. For now, we can only anticipate silence on this matter, but should anything change, rest assured we’ll keep you posted.
