New Lilo & Stitch Promo Throws Back To One Of Disney World’s Most Infamous Moments. How They Avoided Making Parkgoers Mad This Time

One delightful aspect of the anticipation for the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch is observing the promotional efforts. Just as Stitch disrupted different areas within Disney’s animated realm when the initial film debuted, we now see him doing the same in various parts of the current Disney universe. It’s enjoyable to notice how Disney has subtly paid homage to its past, and now even Walt Disney World is joining the fun.

Just as well-known Disney series characters often grace Disney theme parks, Stitch is no exception to this rule. For quite some time, he even had an attraction at Magic Kingdom called Stitch’s Great Escape. Although numerous visitors, including myself, might argue that this was among the poorest attractions in Disney World, the marketing tactics used for it are now infamously remembered. Recently, they seem to have repeated a similar approach, though with some differences.

Stitch Covered Cinderella Castle In Toilet Paper To Promote Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch has hit theaters, and our own Lilo & Stitch review gives it high marks, but the little blue menace is still causing trouble regardless of the positive response. A video posted to Instagram by Disney World shows that Stitch has “invaded” the park, and he went wild on Cinderella Castle, covering the iconic location with toilet paper and graffiti.

Back in the day, when Stitch’s Great Escape first opened at Magic Kingdom, there were some who humorously claimed the castle got vandalized – a claim that has been resurfacing in comments lately and is causing quite a chuckle among movie lovers like myself. The joke itself is rather amusing, considering the initial reaction wasn’t exactly one of laughter back then.

The Time They Actually Covered Cinderella Castle In Toilet Paper Didn’t Go Over So Well

Picture yourself venturing to the most enchanted destination on the planet, where a fresh Disney World attraction unveils – Stitch’s Great Escape, an exciting update of the intriguing but debated ExtraTerrorestrial Alien Encounter. The thought of being among the first to enjoy this new experience featuring lovable Stitch has you buzzing with anticipation! As you enter the park, however, you notice that Cinderella Castle appears to be wrapped in toilet paper.

In reality, this event took place. The castle depicted in this video, though it appeared genuine, had a fleeting existence – spanning just one day. Consequently, those fortunate enough to be present at the time were privy to a distinct fragment of Disney‘s historical lore. For frequent visitors of Disney World, it may have been amusing, but not everyone found it humorous.

Most crowds at Disney World on any given day consist of people taking a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip, who have only seen Cinderella Castle on television and are eager to see it in reality, perhaps even capturing the iconic photo in front of the castle that so many others have. Regrettably, not everyone was pleased when their castle photograph included toilet paper and graffiti.

Although the publicity tactic seemed logical, it left many feeling uncomfortable. Even though destroying the castle provided amusement for certain individuals, one must consider living amidst the wreckage every day.

On social media, fans speculated if a replica of the vandalized castle could be included in the launch of the new live-action Lilo & Stitch. In actuality, we did create one, albeit virtually. This way, fans get their nostalgic moment without any real-life photographs being spoiled.
