New Looney Tunes Movie Gets a Theatrical Release

“As a long-time Looney Tunes enthusiast who grew up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig, I can hardly contain my excitement over ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’ gracing our movie screens! After years of waiting and wondering if we would ever see a full-length Looney Tunes feature in theaters again, this news is music to my ears.

If “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” hadn’t graced theaters as initially planned in 2021, fans might have expressed disappointment with the decision. Originally slated for release by Warner Bros. Animation on HBO Max and Cartoon Network, this 2D-animated feature inspired by the “Looney Tunes Cartoons” TV show was eventually dropped from the streamer in 2022. However, in 2023, it was revealed that GFM Animation would be handling worldwide distribution for the first-ever theater release of a fully-animated “Looney Tunes” feature film – and now, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are set to entertain audiences with their signature humor in U.S. cinemas.

The latest Looney Tunes movie’s North American distribution rights have been obtained by Ketchup Entertainment. This animated film is set to hit cinemas across the country towards the end of the current year, and we’ll announce the exact release date in due course.

The Day the Earth Blew Up marks a significant milestone for the Looney Tunes series, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to bring this movie to cinemas. We can hardly wait for viewers of all ages to enjoy what is undeniably one of the sharpest animated films in recent memory,” commented Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment.

“Gareth’s excitement about Warner Bros. Animation’s amazing Looney Tunes journey convinced us that Ketchup Entertainment was the ideal choice for distributing the film in North America. We can’t wait to collaborate further with them as they get ready to present Porky Pig and Daffy Duck on the big screen,” stated Fred Hedman from GFM Animation.

As Pete Browngardt, I had the privilege of directing a fresh new feature that made its debut at the Annecy Animation Festival in June. This project was a collaborative effort with Alex Kirwan, my partner on Looney Tunes Cartoons, and Kevin Costello, known for his work on the Tom & Jerry movie. Together, we penned this cinematic masterpiece.
