Since the release of version 3.0.0 back in November 2023, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hasn’t seen any new content. This update included support for the final set of courses from the Booster Course Pass, which had initially been offered in the mobile game Mario Kart Tour. The Booster Course Pass was an effective strategy to prolong the game’s lifespan by adding a substantial amount of previously released content. To date, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains the most successful video game in the Switch console’s history, with fans eagerly anticipating the next mainline installment in the series. However, Nintendo typically avoids launching competing Mario games on the same platform, suggesting that “Mario Kart 9” won’t be released until the next Nintendo console is launched.
Based on recent speculation, it’s highly probable that a fresh installment of Mario Kart will be unveiled in the coming year! Nintendo is scheduled to announce a novel video game platform somewhere between now and March 2025. While some gossip hints at an announcement as soon as this month, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. When the new system is finally revealed, it’s quite possible that we’ll see a new Mario Kart simultaneously or shortly after. Nintendo understands that fans have been yearning for a full-fledged new game in the series since a decade ago, and Mario Kart is a major selling point for them.
