In addition to the much-awaited and eagerly-expected unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, enthusiasts were also treated to a first glimpse of the forthcoming Mario Kart title. Already being referred to as Mario Kart 9, this new installment has become a topic of extensive online discussion, with fans scouring every detail for hints and potential new features. One aspect that has particularly caught their attention is the possibility of accommodating up to 24 racers, promising even more mayhem and excitement among friends both offline and online. However, some astute observers have also noted a subtle clue suggesting a fresh or altered feature in the upcoming Mario Kart 9 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
In the sneak peek of the upcoming Mario Kart, fans spotted something peculiar at around the 1:55 minute mark on a new Mario Bros. Circuit track, seemingly below Yoshi’s Diner. This unusual object, visible for just a few seconds, has left fans puzzled as to its true identity.
This potential new addition to the game seems to be either a fiery prize box or possibly an item that can be dropped, similar to a banana or an explosive crystal. Since the Fake Item Box was missing from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it could be making a comeback in a fresh form. What’s intriguing about this new object is that it appears isolated, situated away from the main part of the track.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that Nintendo often designs off-track areas on their courses to offer boost pads or item boxes. Usually, these item boxes are clustered together to give racers a better chance of picking up something useful, but it’s not uncommon to find solitary items too. This one spins just like an item box, making me hopeful that I might get a power-up!
If this appears to be a fresh addition, it’s likely a counterfeit Item Box. Given its striking resemblance to an actual item box, there aren’t many other possibilities. It wouldn’t be unusual for Nintendo to introduce a new fire-based item, considering how often fire serves as a power-up and characteristic of Mario and other series characters.
Another possibility is that the flaming object serves as an obstacle within the track’s layout. Given its placement near what seems like Yoshi’s Diner drive-thru, it might suggest the cooks accidentally heated something too much, making it potentially hazardous. Swerving towards it could lead to racers losing control and skidding off course. If this is a course hazard, it may only appear at certain instances. However, given there’s no boost pad or rewards for choosing that risky, burning path, it seems less probable.
Great news for gamers! Nintendo has officially announced a special Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, where we can expect a deeper look at the upcoming Mario Kart game. Fans will hopefully find out more about that enigmatic item and have their other questions answered as well. So keep your eyes peeled and get ready to rev up for the next Mario Kart!
