In the wake of Nintendo’s announcement about the upcoming Mario Kart game for Nintendo Switch 2, there’s been an eerie silence regarding details from Nintendo. Fans are still in the dark about the game’s title, features, gameplay mechanics, and most importantly, its release date. With no official information available, fans have resorted to speculation. Among these discussions, some Mario Kart enthusiasts believe that they’ve spotted signs in the game reveal footage suggesting that a significant feature introduced in Mario Kart 8 might be eliminated or significantly altered in the new version for Nintendo Switch 2.
On the Mario Kart subreddit, there’s a post presenting what appears to be proof that the anti-gravity feature seen in Mario Kart 8 won’t be featured in the upcoming Mario Kart for Nintendo Switch 2.
The evidence lies in the noticeable modification: there are forks only on the front wheels, unlike Mario Kart 8 and its Deluxe version where forks were present on both sides. This alteration is significant since it allows the wheels to rotate when engaged in anti-gravity mode. Consequently, one could infer that anti-gravity might have been eliminated from the game. Such a change may align with theories suggesting a reboot of the Mario Kart franchise, although it’s also plausible this adjustment is merely cosmetic and won’t affect gameplay. At present, we can only speculate as further details are yet to be revealed.

As a devoted fan myself, I’ve noticed a divide among us when it comes to the idea under discussion. Some fellow enthusiasts have expressed enthusiasm towards this concept, given their long-standing dissatisfaction with the mechanic in question. However, others caution that such a change would be substantial and might require some adjustment. It’s important to remember that the mechanic in question was introduced only recently in Mario Kart 8, which has been our go-to game for over 11 years – roughly one third of the series’ lifespan.
It would be quite different without anti-gravity, as it’s been a key part of our Mario Kart adventures for the past eleven years.
In essence, certain Mario Kart enthusiasts are speculating that if this alteration occurs, it might imply that there will be no tracks from Mario Kart 8 in the upcoming game, unless Nintendo chooses to revamp these tracks, a practice they’ve employed sparingly in the past.
Currently, what we’re dealing with is mere conjecture. But if you’re interested in more conjecture about Mario Kart, along with the most recent news, whispers, and potential revelations, just follow this link.
