GKIDS Films has unveiled a fresh trailer for the upcoming movie, titled “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX“, set to hit American theaters on February 28th. The trailer offers glimpses into various sequences featured in the film, offering insights into the lives and traits of the principal characters. Additionally, it previews numerous thrilling action scenes that revolve around an underground mecha battle arena, which plays a significant role in the anime.
Titled “-Beginning-“, this movie is essentially a combination of the first three episodes from the upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” series on TV. This film kickstarts the promotional campaign for “Gundam GQuuuuuuX“, although the exact broadcast date for the anime series has not been announced yet.
The recently released GKIDS trailer for -Beginning- resembles the recent Japanese trailer from Studio Sunrise, which showcased the movie after its Japan release on January 17th. Notably, Studio Sunrise is a key Japanese studio that has been behind Gundam series since their inception. The new trailer for -Beginning- from Studio Sunrise includes crucial scenes and the opening tune by Kenshi Yonezu. The previous trailer contained more spoilers for the movie, hinting at a shocking return of a significant Gundam character. It seems that the new GKIDS trailer focuses on different aspects and incorporates additional scenes not previously shown to the public, presumably to keep the film’s plot twist under wraps.
Gundam Movies in North America
Previously, several Gundam films have been introduced in North America, such as the initial compilation movies of the classic “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “Char’s Counterattack”, and “Gundam Seed Freedom”. The upcoming production titled “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is a joint venture between Sunrise and Studio Khara. GKIDS, who have previously collaborated with Studio Khara on the distribution and cinematic release of various films in their “Rebuild of Evangelion” series, will also be involved in this new project. Notably, several creators from “Evangelion”, including its lead architect Hideaki Anno, are contributing to the creation of “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”.
The original Gundam trilogy movies and “Char’s Counterattack” were massive hits in their native Japan. More recent films in the franchise have been released globally, achieving success in various international markets. Among these, “Gundam Seed Freedom” emerged as the highest-grossing Gundam film to date, receiving accolades and positive feedback from fans of the series. “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” dominated the Japanese box office on its debut weekend, setting a new record for the country. With the reputation of the “Evangelion” franchise supporting this new Gundam project, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” has the potential to be one of the biggest anime sensations of 2025.
