An upcoming Nintendo Switch game is set to evoke memories of the N64 era for gamers. Although the N64 isn’t one of Nintendo’s highest-selling video game consoles, it holds a special place in the hearts of many who grew up playing it and its iconic games. Launched between the SNES and the GameCube in 1996, the N64 had a relatively brief lifespan, being succeeded by the GameCube in 2001 after just five years. However, during this time, it was instrumental in shaping the era of 3D gaming. Among all genres on the N64, none were more popular than the 3D platformer. Although the genre is largely obsolete today, it remains synonymous with the N64, particularly because of Super Mario 64.
Players yearning for the nostalgic splendor of the N64’s 3D platformers might be interested in Kero Quest 64, an upcoming game destined for both PC and Nintendo Switch platforms. This title is designed to transport gamers back to that cherished period of gaming history.
Currently, there’s no announcement regarding a release date, implying that the game might be playable on both the new and current versions of the Nintendo Switch. The developer, BroDute, has explicitly mentioned “Nintendo consoles,” which strongly suggests it will also appear on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Given that the anticipated launch of Nintendo Switch 2 is imminent, this seems plausible.
Kero Quest 64 is a 3D platformer that resembles other games in its genre, particularly those released during the late ’90s. The game’s storyline revolves around a character named Kero, a blue frog on a mission to halt a prince who has misused his newly acquired magical powers. To accomplish this, you will need to gather Magical Shards scattered across the kingdom.
The game’s main storyline unfolds thus: “In this adventure, you need to navigate over twenty open stages, each boasting a vintage 3D style. As you chase after Magical Shards, you will gather items like Gold Coins and outfits for Kero to don.
Though the developer BroDute hasn’t specified a release date yet, they hint that the game development is nearly complete, with only a large quantity of objects to code and the levels themselves remaining to be developed. Since there’s no indication of a 2021 release, it seems unlikely. If you’re eagerly anticipating this new game, however, you can already try out a demo version, which is accessible for free on Steam, albeit not on the Nintendo eShop.
