A silent update for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED consoles has just been rolled out, an update that most Switch users probably missed. Occasionally, Nintendo performs updates on their Switch consoles which they label as “rebootless.” These aren’t the type of updates you download; instead, Nintendo can make these changes to the hardware without any user action required. Since no download is needed, these updates are usually minor and don’t bring significant changes. However, adjustments have been made to the Switch in this case, and we now have a clue about what Nintendo decided to tweak this time.
According to the findings of Nintendo Switch data analyst @OatmealDome, a recent update for the platform, which doesn’t seem to alter the user interface or console performance significantly, has been released this week. Instead, it appears that Nintendo has reorganized the list of prohibited words that can’t be used on the hardware. The reason behind this reorganization remains unknown, but speculation suggests it was done to prevent incorrect bans. Other than this minor adjustment, Nintendo only added new Russian words to the list of banned terms on the Switch since they are not allowed in the Russian language on the platform.
Although it may appear unusual for Nintendo Switch consoles, it’s not uncommon for Nintendo to prohibit specific words during the lifespan of their platform. This latest update follows that pattern, aligning with Nintendo’s historical approach.
A software upgrade, version 19.0.1, has been rolled out without requiring a reboot.
The list of inappropriate words seems to have been reorganized (perhaps to minimize false alarms), and numerous new terms have been incorporated into the Russian filter. However, there are no other modifications in this update.

Looking ahead, it’s uncertain when the next significant software upgrade for the Nintendo Switch will be available. The last notable update for the console was on the last day of October 2024, version 19.0.1. Since then, Nintendo hasn’t made any other changes related to the Switch, until this week’s patch without a system reboot.
It’s highly probable that Nintendo is concentrating more on the next version of the Switch, tentatively named the Switch 2. While Nintendo has promised to unveil its new Switch console platform by the end of March, numerous leaks have seemingly exposed most of what we can anticipate from the Switch 2 ahead of Nintendo’s official announcement.
