Today, Blizzard rolled out an updated version of Overwatch 2, introducing a significant new element to the game. Lately, enthusiasm for Overwatch 2 seems to have dwindled somewhat, mainly due to the emergence of a fresh competitor in Marvel Rivals. However, Blizzard continues to work diligently on Overwatch 2 and has now made this latest update available across all platforms.
Currently available for download, the newly released patch for Overwatch 2 is primarily designed for PC users due to the inclusion of DirectX 12 support. Introducing DirectX 12
Thrilled to share some exciting news! Overwatch 2 has just started to work with DirectX 12. For the very first time, Overwatch 2 will be compatible with various graphics application programming interfaces (APIs). This update is an extension of our dedication to provide advanced technology and enhancements for our players.
Although DirectX 12 marks a substantial progression, DirectX 11 remains our primary Application Programming Interface (API) and will still receive ongoing support. This transition signifies the start of our exploration into DirectX 12’s capabilities, aiming to amplify the Overwatch 2 experience. We aspire to capitalize on advancements in Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technology, ensuring Overwatch 2 can fully harness the latest innovations from contemporary GPUs and provide an improved gaming experience for our players. At present, DirectX 12 support is offered as a Beta version. Some systems might experience slower performance compared to DirectX 11, and occasional stuttering may occur during gameplay.

- Launch Overwatch 2 and navigate to Options from the main menu.
- Under Video, locate the option to select your Graphics API.
- Choose DirectX 12 from the dropdown menu.
- Restart the game to apply the changes.
- Note PCs that cannot support DirectX 12 will not be able to see the option to turn it on in your game.
