This month, a remake of a classic Game Boy game from Nintendo is set to release. Instead of being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch or its potential successor as many had anticipated, this remake will be available on PlayStation 5 (PS5) and also on PC platforms. The surprising announcement makes PS5 the sole console where you can play this revamped version, making it a PlayStation 5 console exclusive.
1990 feels like eons ago, with a full 35 years behind us. Gamers of that time can recall some truly iconic titles such as Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy III, Dr. Mario, Dragon Quest IV, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, F-Zero, Mega Man 3, and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. It was a unique era in gaming history, characterized by a much smaller number of game releases compared to today.
1990 saw the launch of the Game Boy adaptation of Bubble Ghost, which originally came out in 1987. This Game Boy version was developed by Opera House, while the original was created by ERE Informatique and published by Accolade. Initially an Atari ST game, it gained popularity through its subsequent ports, one of which was for the Game Boy. On March 27th, there will be a remake of this classic game available on PC and PS5 platforms.
Developed by Nakama Game Studio and published by Selecta Play, the revamped version of the game, named Bubble Ghost Remake, thoroughly overhauls the original game, resulting in a finished product that bears little resemblance to the 1990 Game Boy game it was based on.
As a spectral gamer, I find myself in the ancient stronghold of the brilliant inventor Heinrich Von Schinker, nestled in the cold climes of northern England. It seems that my spirit has returned here, taking on a ghostly form. With me is an enigmatic bubble, which I can nudge gently to move about. My task? To navigate through the chaos caused by my own runaway inventions and confront the fearsome beasts that roam these halls. My one and only objective: guide this bubble to its freedom.
At the moment, we’re unsure of the final price for the upcoming release on March 27th. However, if you’d like to preview it early, there’s a free demo accessible on Steam. Unfortunately, as of now, this demo isn’t offered on PS5.
Regarding the remake, if it’s comparable in length to the original game, it would likely only take about an hour to finish. This might suggest a modest cost for the game.
