New Stephen King Movie Starring Marvel’s Tom Hiddleston Confirms Release Date

As a long-time fan of Stephen King’s works and a connoisseur of horror and suspense genres, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “The Life of Chuck.” Having grown up on classics like “It” and “The Shining,” it’s refreshing to see King delve into a more introspective tale that focuses on the human condition rather than the supernatural.

The upcoming movie adaptation of one of Stephen King’s novels has been scheduled for release on May 30, 2025. Titled “The Life of Chuck“, this film stars Tom Hiddleston as the main character. Known for his work on shows like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and movies such as Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game (both based on King’s works), director Mike Flanagan is at the helm. The film is structured into three acts, offering a unique portrayal of the life story of the late Charles Krantz. Rather than following a conventional timeline, the narrative unfolds in reverse order, imbuing the story with a sense of melancholy while maintaining an air of intrigue.

King is well-known for crafting horror and suspense tales that often make it to the big screen, yet some of his works venture beyond these genres. One such piece is “The Life of Chuck“, found in the collection “If It Bleeds“. This story serves as a contemplation on the significance of living a purposeful life and the bonds we forge with others.

Tom Hiddleston, renowned for his portrayal of Loki in Marvel Studios films, boasts a remarkable repertoire of dramatic performances as well. Given his talent, he seems an ideal fit for the lead role, and director Flanagan appears to agree. In an exclusive chat with Vanity Fair, Flanagan expressed, “He was a skilled dancer, but it wasn’t that which caught my attention.” Revealing a dance scene from the movie, Flanagan continued, “I wasn’t astounded by his technique; rather, I was touched by the joy emanating from him. His expression made me smile just as warmly as I did while reading that specific part of the book.

As a film enthusiast, I must say it’s a thrill for many of us fans to know that Stephen King himself was part of this project. However, being well-aware of his past sentiments towards adaptations of his works (such as the case with The Shining, which he admitted didn’t quite match his vision), it’s understandable why he might have initially had reservations about this venture.

Flanagan shared that King initially had doubts about the project. He explained, “His initial reactions were something like, ‘Oh, alright. Yeah. If you believe it’s a movie…'” He also mentioned several times that he thought it would be difficult to secure funding for it through conventional methods. However, later on, King referred to the adaptation of The Life of Chuck as a “joy machine.

If the artist behind the story is expressing admiration and endorsement for it, it’s likely to strike a chord with most people. This is evident from its victory at the TIFF People’s Choice Award, where it was showcased and recognized as the best film of the year, touching the hearts of many viewers. Given this, it seems plausible that it could be a significant contender for the 2026 Oscar race.

The film has already earned an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting numerous favorable reviews thus far. Additionally, aside from Hiddleston, it will showcase a star-studded cast that includes Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nick Offerman, Mia Sara, Heather Langenkamp, Matthew Lillard, David Dastmalchian, Kate Siegel, Carl Lumbly, and others.

The Life of Chuck will hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
